BookWorm 87 Posted April 30, 2014 Just found out that those excruciating pains I've been experiencing on my right side and the debilitating heartburn (what I thought was heartburn) is actually problems with my gallbladder. Anyone else have to have theirs removed as a result of surgery? 1 short n sassy reacted to this
hmk715 217 Posted April 30, 2014 I haven't had this (only 9 days out from surgery) but I was told this is common. My surgeon starts us on Actigall two weeks after surgery, for 6 months to try and avoid fall bladder complications. Sorry you're dealing with this! Good luck! SherB 220 Posted April 30, 2014 Must be common. My surgeon removes the gall bladder if you still have it on all of her patients. Mine is already removed. 1 rome reacted to this

Skittles00 12 Posted April 30, 2014 I lost a lot of weight a couple years after I had my daughter taking phentramine pills, the weight came off quickly then I got pains and had to get hall bladder removed. During support prior to this surgery they mentioned gall bladder issues but I ignored it due to not having one. You may want to check with dr about it
BookWorm 87 Posted May 1, 2014 Thanks all. For those that had theirs removed, ave you had to change your diet?
stormied7 10 Posted May 1, 2014 I had my gallbladder removed the same time as I was sleeved. Everything went well..
Postop 412 Posted May 1, 2014 Yes. Even thought they gave me Urso after my WLS. Three years later; horrid pain and the gallbladder had to come out.
Scylla 106 Posted May 1, 2014 I had my gallbladder removed the same time as I was sleeved. Everything went well.. Same here. my surgeon removes the gall bladder if you already have evidence of stones. Otherwise, he prescribes bile salts for 6 months.
GriffinSabine 34 Posted May 1, 2014 Is there anyone who never took medication for gallbladder post-surgery, and has also had no problems since?
short n sassy 0 Posted May 3, 2014 I'm having to get mine taken out in two weeks- I was told mine is full of sludge. Hoping that I won't have any additional hiccups as I'm still not at my weight goal.
Rena's got this 274 Posted May 4, 2014 I spoke to my surgeon about this pre-surgery. Both my mom and my sister had to have theirs out, and they weren't overweight. He said he would look at it during surgery, and if it looked ok he would leave it in. Well, it looked ok, so he left it in, but he did prescribe the medicine that would prevent gallstones for six months. I've only been two months out from surgery, and have had no problems, so I think I'll be fine. Still....I wonder if that will always be the case.
2bfit 62 Posted May 4, 2014 Some years ago I was told I had some tiny gallstones but nothing terrible. That was before I was sleeved. Can you describe what the pain is like from gallstones? I have started to wonder recently if I am having gallstone attacks.

BookWorm 87 Posted May 5, 2014 It took about 3-4 months before my problems started to manifest. Here's hoping things stay on the up and up! I spoke to my surgeon about this pre-surgery.
