LapBand before Government Academy?

Recommended Posts

Hello All, I am A 30 year old Male 5'11" 260 lbs. I am Interested in the lap band . I have been 40 pounds over weight for 7 years and I just cant shake my beer gut. I have passed the physical an the PT condintiong test for U.S. Customs. I am not out of shape that bad (can run a mile easly). I just like to eat alot. Would this procedure inhibit my ablity to run and exercise hard? What about geting hit or falling? will the band take the punishment? My mother was the one suggesting I get this done, as I have never heard about this procedure. Thanks Robert

Hi Robert, it sounds like you would be the perfect candidate for the band because you are so active. You should be fine. The only thing you should think about is that the port site can be injured or bruised. That is the only place I would be concerned about. It is just underneath the muscle about at the waist line. Good luck in your journey. I love my band. I will be banded a year in June. Its been great. I love the restriction that comes along with the band. I eat like a bird now. Julie

Robert,

There are no restrictions on excercise after being banded. If you only need to loose 40 pounds, though. You may not qualify for it. Most Dr's recommend a BMI of at least 35 with co-morbities (diabeties, high BP, etc) or a BMI of 40 or higher. Here is a link to the makers homepage and it has a BMI calculator on it. Good luck

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
