Here come the questions/looks/reactions of others to my WLS

Recommended Posts

So hitting a 40 pound loss seems to have changed my appearance enough that I am suddenly getting more questions about my loss. What I notice is those more confident about themselves, especially my male co-workers, are complimentary and interested. (Not in an inappropriate way, btw) The women are different. I have a very good friend at work who opted not to have WLS, but she has been losing weight along with me, and is always supportive and complimentary. Then I have the super-skinny egotistical co-worker who looks me up and down and says nothing. And some closer co-workers who have recently gained weight and don't say anything to me about my loss, even in the presence of others who excitedly ask my secret. (Which I sometimes share, depending on the person.) When I lost 20 pounds, I got a few reactions. When I lost 30 pounds, I got a few more. At 40 pounds down, the reactions, positive and negative, are happening several times a day. So I am celebrating it all. Wondering what it will be like to be at goal. What will that egotistical super-skinny-b**ch ever do with herself? ;)

Let it all be your motivation. I love it when I see people for the first time since having surgery and they are like WTF happened to you?

Enjoying every pound lost!!

I am experiencing this same thing. Men are complimentary and kind, most (not all) women don't say a thing. I find it so odd, I'm looking forward to the rest of my weight loss and the reactions of others. It sometimes is comical.

Congrats on yours :)

Im going back to work next week and I know Im going to get the questions and compliments. Only 1 co-worker/friend knows about my wls. Ive lost 19lbs so far and its noticable on my face alot and a little in my tummy area. I plan on telling them I been doing a strict juicing diet. Well technically Im not lying lol

It's interesting how people behave toward others. The fact that you are losing weight, forces others to look at you differently. Fat people are easy to ignore and dismiss. It is part of US society. Due to propaganda, one must look a certain way to be considered beautiful

You lose the weight and people who dismissed you are forced to see you differently. You will find people will treat you far differently than what you have experienced before. Many hate that. Especially women. Not all women, however that reaction will usually come from women.

Now ego girl is beginning to see you as competition. She will probably become really nasty to you. So, do not be surprised.

It shakes her own sense of self worth as you lose weight and gain confidence. Just enjoy the show she is about to put on.

As for your weight loss journey, we are all in this together. I am proud of the steps you have taken to get this far. It isn't easy and we are here to support you. Good job!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
