nerms 237 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) congrats mick, how exciting I can't stomach Optifast, the smell is actually making me want to vomit and the taste is absolutely feral. I was drinking them a couple weeks ago with no problem at all, I actually liked the taste! Anyway, I'm down 12.5kg since I last saw my doc 2 months ago so.. I'm actually over the moon Edited July 16, 2014 by nerms
steveelea 61 Posted July 18, 2014 @@Mick Molloy Well Done!!!!....wow thats a lot of weight to lose!!!! Are you almost at your goal weight ?? @@nerms thats a fantastic weight loss too.....when are you in for surgery?? What are you doing for pre op instead of Optifast?? I had the food that was equal to being on Optifast that my dietitian gave me as I could not stomach it. It did the same thing with weight loss and it was low carb too. Sorry I haven't been on this week.....having a not so great with with the teenagers...well 1 in particular. Being a parent is the hardest job in the world and at the moment I feel like packing a bag and leaving them all to them selves and see how they would all cope then..... Sorry rant and slight tanty over
nerms 237 Posted July 18, 2014 Surgery on the 29th. Yesterday I had a Soup and some fruit, the day before a 200g tub of low fat cottage cheese, and the first day nothing but Water. Today I'm going to try and force myself with the Optifast again.. I know it needs to be done, so many others do it and hate it. I can't see the dietician cos she'll just charge me another 120 for giving me a piece of paper, which I can't afford. So annoying and frustrating that this is only day 4 Maybe I'm just being a sook! I'm broke as a joke so all I have is the Optifast, no choice there! I just spent 1600 on another course, 400 out of my savings and I have to pay for the surgery on Tuesday. I think that is so dumb, paying a week before? Leaving that money there the whole time to be picked at for months.. Why can't they just let you pay once it's been booked! ANYWAY, I'm just happy I got down to his requirement and that is in fact happening. As for teens LOL good luck! 1 steveelea reacted to this

owlslovepears 36 Posted July 20, 2014 I'm feeling better, I'm getting 1 to 1 and a half shakes down and a coffee! I'm sure you'll do ok! It seems difficult but if you can be positive and set up a routine it really helps, best of luck! 3 days post op and I'm still a bit sore and having trouble with drinking the fluids, I still have a bit of gas and have not moved bowels yet which I think is causing the problem! Hope to go home today but looks like tomorrow might be the day! Just got to up this Fluid intake wish me luck! steveelea 61 Posted July 21, 2014 @@Cath Three Birches you sound like you are doing really well....It's so hard to drink a lot I know but just try to take sips constantly and as for the bowls.....there is probably nothing in there right now Can't believe you are sleeved already!!!! I thought it was this Tuesday....I am hopeless with days I tell you. Nerms I have the food list equal to Optifast if you would like me to "try" to find it and message it to you. I think I have it in an email somewhere. I was told it's really important that you don't have sugar and carbs and fruit etc as they want the liver to shrink in size as it sits in the way of the stomach. It makes the operation easier and more successful as keyhole surgery. Thats why it's so important to have the Optifast or its equal its not about the weight loss so much as the shrinking of the liver which is so important. Carbs and sugar will stop that from happening. Hope this helps xox
nerms 237 Posted July 21, 2014 I fully understand the reasoning behind Optifast for a preop diet. There's actually 17.8g of sugar per sachet so I'm not so sure about the sugar part but I know the amount of carbs is what helps the liver along. There's more sugar than Protein in the sachet, lol crazy but I guess if it wasn't there it would taste even more disgusting. 22.5g of carbs too, more than I would have thought, but hey it works. Thanks the offer of an alternative but I can't do anything at this stage but try and drink the most that I can. Only 7 more days of it anyway so all good. owlslovepears 36 Posted July 21, 2014 Congrats on your loss @@Chez that's excellent! I'm feeling quite sick tonight my nurse gave me a Celebrex tab and I've just learned it should be done with food. Tummy v sore and I'm nervous but suppose if anything is going to happen it's better to happen in hospital than home! Hoping for home tomorrow but more hoping this discomfort goes away! I'm keen to start the next steps and am getting a good idea now how challenging the next few weeks will be! I'll do it though, I can! 1 steveelea reacted to this

steveelea 61 Posted July 23, 2014 @ yes it is normal to feel down after the op....it feels like a bit of an emotional rollercoaster but please never feel alone. If you need to talk we are always here. Sometimes it really helps just to have a chat or to vent or even just say whats upsetting you. We don't judge....I vent a lot and it really helps. Thinking of you and please message me if you need to have a chat. Thats great that you are out of hospital and on the mend....all the recovery will be over soon. @@nerms WEll done on being in the 80's.....can't wait till I get there one day 1 nerms reacted to this
