No fluid in band, still have restriction

Recommended Posts

I have been banded since 2007. I had all the Fluid taken out of my band about a year ago when I was first pregnant. I had a rough pregnancy with bad acid reflux and throwing up almost every night (from the reflux). Now that my baby is here the reflux got better for a while. Now it is back and I've started sliming/vomiting some after eating. It felt like my band was too tight. I went to the doc and did a barium swallow. You can see the barium go down and stop before the band. It barely goes through! So I have full restriction with no fluid in my band. The nurse didn't know what to think. The doctor says I should have it removed. Has this happened to anyone else? How could this possibly happen?

Something similar happened to me. Dr. did a barium swallow and an endoscopy so all my Fluid was out, but I was still restricted.

After a esophageal barium test, a cookie swallow, and endoscopy, I've learned that I have Barretts and s structure at 5e bottom of my esophagus. I'm scheduled for an upper G I on Wed, then will see my gastroenterologist in early February. I guess I'll learn his recommendations then. Meanwhile I'm eating several small meals, not eating 3 hours before bed, and taking a proton pump inhibitor. I feel much better and hardly barf at all. YIPPEE!

Six years ago I chose my bariatric surgeon because he was the only guy in town qualified for Medicare at that time. He doesn't practice at my hospital of choice. I kinda hope I can switch to the surgeon at my preferred hospital because communication among my medical team will be improved. The current bariatric guy is a skilled surgeon and a pleasant person, nut he isn't a team player.

What has happened with your problem?

Good luck!
