I am having a heck of a time trying to get food in. 1 wk post op yesterday and cant seem to take in much. The Protein Shakes give me incredible diarrhea, so I've been trying yogurt. The issue, I can only get maybe 2 oz in before I get horrible chest pain. I wish Protein came in a pill!

Try sipping some watered down gatorade to help restore your electrolytes. Did the Protein Shakes give you diarrhea before surgery? It may be you have developed a whey allergy or lactose intolerance. That happens to some people, post-op. You may have to try different brands or soy-based shakes. The chest pain means you still have a lot of internal swelling so go very slowly with everything you are taking in. The chest pain will lessen with your healing process but it is your sleeve's way of saying "enough".

I am 13 days post op and only on a clear liquid diet. I have had diarrhea since about day 3. Basically my surgeon said in so many words, liquid in liquid out. Not trying to be gross, but it might not bw the Protein Shakes, might just be your body trying to adjust? But then again, I have heard from others that Protein gives them diarrhea in the beginning. My NUT said to always go back to clear liquid diet if yoy have trouble tolerating something and add new items one at a time and a little at a time. Hope this helps...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
