taking reviews with a grain of salt

Recommended Posts

The doctor I'm considering has had mixed reviews. Lots love him, but the most common complaint is he treats people like cattle , is arrogant, rude, and wont answer question and will tell patients he's too busy . I haven't met with him yet and am a little worried. I want a doctor who's phenomenal at his job so arrogance is to be expected, but where is the line? I know there are tons of doctors out there, but I cant afford them. He offers specials so I feel like if I want this surgery I have to choice....

It really all depends on you. Are you comfortable having someone like that be your doctor, or do you need someone with a better bed side manner?

Personally, my surgeon for my lap band was like that. He was a great surgeon, but I never felt like I could talk to him. I am getting a sleeve soon and I am working with a different surgeon who is both an amazing surgeon and has wonderful bedside manner. In fact, I broke down in tears in his office and he was so incredibly supportive. I feel like I can go to him if I have any issues, nit something I felt with the other surgeon.

I was sleeved almost 5 months ago and I had a surgeon who is with an extremely reputable bariatric group, yet after my initial meeting, I could see he seemed a bit preoccupied and arrogant and rushed. I am in pharmaceutical sales, so I talk to surgeons all day long and I don't think that the "treating people like cattle" necessarily makes me question his abilities as a surgeon as much as his "specials" that he runs. What kind of specials are we talking about? Surgeons are constantly running around like crazy with running back and forth from rounds to surgery centers to dictating to seeing new patients and existing patient follow ups. A lot of people don't get it so I'm sure that's where some negative comments are coming from. In my opinion, I am fine with somebody that may be an excellent surgeon as long as I can utilize the nutritionists, nurses, PA's, etc... with my random questions! Good luck!!

If you read my blog you'd understand just how much a surgeon with a different personality can make on your care (or the lack thereof).

If they are arrogant they may be using that to intimidate people or bully people. Either way if they're in a caring profession, why should they be? Because they can! There is no reason for that. The idea that someone can be rude or arrogant and that people should accept that because they're good - why do people think that? We can all learn manners. If the doctor didn't want the hustle and bustle or can't cope with it, there are things to help them out, but taking it out on the patient: if they're like that before surgery, what will they might be like AFTER surgery when you need help?

See my blog and tell me it doesn't make a different in your life and your care.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
