Soft stop or something else?

Recommended Posts

I'm still on soft foods. Today I was eating macaroni (won't be in my diet once I move on to solids but I've been eating it on the soft food diet) and I ate too quickly. I feel as if there's a tickle or some small piece of food behind my tonsils (or where my tonsils were once) Is this a soft stop? There is no food actually stuck there.

Pasta is on my no no list. It is not really a band friendly food as it can swell up and take up lots of extra space and can get easily stuck in the stoma.

Drink lots of fluids and try to flush it past it sounds like it might be a bit stuck in your stoma. Rice and doughy breads are another NoNO for me..and for most banded patients.

If you are not feeling it pass shortly give your doctor a call and ask them for advice.

Let us know how your doing.

Thanks. The feeling seems to have passed, but it was unsettling, as I was afraid I might have gotten stuck.

Since I'm still in the soft foods phase I'm pretty limited on options. I've been doing tuna or canned chicken at home or baked potatoes, but I was in a rush and just grabbed a container of easy mac to take to work for lunch. I've had it a few times now with no problems but only small amounts eaten very carefully.

Any suggestions on soft foods? I'd like to get away from carbs since they're not helping me lose weight.

You can try eggs pretty much anyway you like them. I also love chilli you can throw this in the blender if it's too rough or too thick for you.

Any kind of fish grilled or baked is good. cheese can be an alternative but you want to be careful with it as too much can be high in fat and calories.

Egg foo young was a favorite soft food of my husband and I. If you get it with the gravy on the side you can add just enough to make it yummy and smooth. As you get closer to the solid food stage you can ask for it with chicken.

Glad you were able to pass the Pasta.

I think lisacaron pretty much nailed it. When I was on soft foods I ate eggs, tuna salad, chicken salad, refried Beans, cottage cheese, and chili. If I think of any others I will let you know. I really enjoyed the egg salad. Good luck!

No, what you're describing isn't a soft-stop. Your soft stop will be something that you'll feel and it goes away: a sigh, a burp, nose running, things like that. You may have something gooey stuck in your throat. I don't remember when I was brave enough to try Pasta, but it was several months after I'd had surgery.

Oops sorry about that. The good news is that soon you will be able to eat it again!!

I love the band because no foods are really restricted. Some "could" be an issue but mostly it's subjective to the person.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
