Feeling a little down.

I'm sure this is going to be typical but I need some reassurance.

I had my sleeve on 4/14/14 and so far I'm down 11lbs from surgery. My thing is, the last 7 days I have only lost a pound. It's really hard to see the scale not moving so soon after surgery. I've struggled with my Protein and liquids but that's getting better. I guess I just expected to see more of a loss in 7 days. So what has your experience been? Is this typical? Is it just my body trying to figure it all out?

Go read 3 week stall. It is normal. :)

It seems like everyone on here have the stalls every now and then. I had RNY but felt the same way but it does come off just weight and see!

I went back into my old posts and copied part of this one for you. It is NORMAL to not have a loss so soon after surgery. Your scale will not show a loss everyday.Good luck! You are ok!



I find that on this page I am constantly advocating for people to step off the scale, to stop allowing an arbitrary number to dictate your mood for an entire day. (Or longer) But those posts about, "HELP! I am in a stall! I gained 3 ounces!" persist. We will all see weight fluctuations for a myriad of non-weight-related issues--you weighed in the afternoon instead of the morning, you moved your scale, you are retaining Water, you are constipated, you stepped off, then on, then off, then on, etc.



I go to my bariatric center once a week, or less. I guess I am what the people here call "a slow loser", maybe because I had a low starting BMI, maybe because I am on calcium-channel blockers that slow my heart rate and metabolism. Either way, I get a real thrill to see losses when they occur, and weighing less often keeps me from obsessing over numbers. This isn't a race, the numbers are not a reflection of who I am as a person. I made a brave choice for my health, and I am talking the talk AND walking the walk. I am proud of myself and happy about my decision.



So to summarize...


1. Step off the scale


2. FInd some lo-cal treats that float your boat: I devour sugar-free popsicles, Viactive Vitamins, and Gummy fiber-supplements (yes, I consider supplements a treat! They are yummy!)


3. Remember that there's no such thing as "cheating". You are making a choice, healthy or not--it's all up to you.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am currently weighing in once a week. And as you say I'm trying to not let a number be a reflexion of me but we all know that's hard to do when you have resorted to surgery because you can't seem to do it on your own. I am thrilled that I've lost 31 since I started my journey and I know that the scale will move. It just stings a bit when you aren't even eating solids yet and you have a stall. It will get better and today my goal is to get in 2 Protein Shakes (I've been struggling to get one down each day) and to get in plenty of Water. It's all a learning process. For my brain and my body. But hearing from others always makes it better. Us newly sleeved folks (or at least myself) are terrified to fail. So a stall really hurts to the bone. But I WILL get to where I want to be, but I know it won't be easy. Thanks again for sharing.

Awww you won't fail sweety, you'll see .... I will get mine on May 5th (1 week from today ) but do have many friends that have had it and some are slower than others to lose it but they all lose all the weight.... also some of them tell me the scale says one thing but when they try on their old clothing, they are amazed at how lose they are. Seems they lose inches faster than the actual pounds on the scales.

Keep up the good work and you'll start shedding those pounds off soon. :)

I know how you feel. Im 3 weeks postop and already at a 9 day stall. Ive lost 19lbs total and I know my body is in shock mode. Whether Im retaining Water, being constipated, eating puree foods now, etc. It can be just about anything that has me on this stall but I know for a fact I will come off it and the weight will continue to drop.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Stay positive!

Casie- I am very new post op. Only 6 days but already scared of a stall in weight loss. I totally agree with being afraid to fail. I feel that as well. No doubt it will begin going down again. Hang in there! ????. ~ LeAnne

I've managed to lose a few more pounds for a total of 13lbs post op. No way I could have lost that in 3 weeks (that averages out to 4.3lbs each week) on my own so I've stepped away from the scale and will weigh in once a week if I'm feeling good about it, but I may limit that for awhile. I don't want my life to become a number on the scale. I'm following the rules and I know the weight will come off. I'm sure I will be less terrified once a get about 60lbs gone. I'm feeling better, my clothes are loose and that's an amazing feeling.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
