dreamgirl45 32 Posted April 28, 2014 Hello... I'm new to BP. Thought I was 100% certain about having surgery (sleeve), but I keep thinking "Am I REALLY doing this?!?!" Have done all evals, except for meeting w/nutritionist. question. Am I normal? Is it normal to be overly certain one day then not the next? Truth is I fear complications but as my hubby said, I could have a heart attack, etc. due to the weight I'm carrying, HBP, diabetes, etc. Thanks for "listening." 1 nonnax2 reacted to this
1Day1Life4Now 882 Posted April 28, 2014 Yes, you are very normal. This is major surgery and though complications are very rare...they are very real and can happen to anyone. Your husband is correct, there are many complications to consider if you don't have the surgery. The good thing about the surgery Is that these complications will decrease as you lose weight.. Only you can decide if you are ready for surgery because you are the one who will have to do the work and follow the rules. Wishing you luck on whatever decision you make. 3 dreamgirl45, nonnax2 and lynn2win reacted to this

I too have those moments; my surgery is May 8th, so I don't have much time for second guessing, but I keep telling myself, "if you don't do it now, you won't", and this is going to change my life for the better, so I pray and keep it moving. Good luck! 1 1Day1Life4Now reacted to this

ArcusX 216 Posted April 28, 2014 If you think it's bad now, wait until the first two days' AFTER you have the surgery. I got my approval last week, and surprisingly, I'm not that excited. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say I'm questioning the decision, but my plan is to stay focused on the underlying reasons why I decided I want to do this in the first place. When I focus on not having sleep apnea and being able to keep up with my boys, I know it's the only way those things are going to happen. If there were another way, I would have gotten there by now. JeanZ_RN 378 Posted April 28, 2014 There are MANY of us on BP who say "My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner." 1 1Day1Life4Now reacted to this
mentalistfan 189 Posted April 28, 2014 I have been busy finding out what my insurance requires, going to seminar, lab work, scheduling this and that and then all of a sudden I think, am I really going to go through with this? I want to lose weight, I need to lose weight, I will be happy...but what if I hate the after of not liking the not eating much part? So yeah, I go back and forth, but mostly forth. seanindallas 17 Posted April 28, 2014 I was very much undecided. I want to lose the weight but at what cost? I have minor anxieties about whether I can stick to such a minimal post-op diet.I don't worry so much about surgical complications but more about long term success. I too am new here. The more I read here and learn what real people have, and are, experiencing, the less nervous I become. There is so much information here. Keep reading and asking questions and maybe like me, you'll be able to feel good about your decision either way. Best of luck! 4 dreamgirl45, nonnax2, 1Day1Life4Now and 1 other reacted to this
DeniseNCC1701 306 Posted April 28, 2014 What you are feeling is perfectly normal. It's a major, life-changing decision, and one that should not be made hastily! Hang out here. A lot. Ask questions. Read the success stories and get inspired. Check out any stories of complications, and discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Have faith in yourself. Good luck! Be well… 2 1Day1Life4Now and dreamgirl45 reacted to this
joatsaint 2,814 Posted April 28, 2014 Yep, you are perfectly normal. People often make WLS sound like starting Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers, but it is major surgery and not to be taken lightly. I still remember freaking out and being on the fence - right up till they wheeled me into the OR room!
