10 days post op for RNY surgery/ feeling left out

Recommended Posts

Still on 100% liquid diet being only 10 days post op ( have had sugar free popsicle) but still find it too hard to sit at the dinner table for supper with the family, I feel bad I can't eat what they're eating so it's best to stay away. Poor hubby I know he misses me there with them. Tell me it will get better over time...feeling left out.

I imagine you'll feel left out as long as you leave yourself out.

I'm 3 days post-op and I have broth or a Protein Drink with my husband for dinner. Why should either of us feel bad?

Try to keep your head up and don't exclude yourself from everyday life.

It does get better. But it took me 6 months to get to my happy state.

If you are lucky enough to sit down to meals with your family (too many of us are just too busy or work different schedules these days), then you absolutely should. Have your Soup, broth, Protein Drink, whatever. . . but enjoy that time with your family. Don't look at it as being deprived of food; look at it as spending quality time with your family. You will most likely eat different foods than they do for the rest of your life (or at least a lot less of it :) ), but that doesn't mean you should take yourself out of the equation when it comes to meal time.

Good luck! :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
