menjaz 35 Posted April 27, 2014 I've been off coffee (and caffeine in general) since about a week before my surgery. But now I'm going back to work. I start work at 430AM. I never really got a clear understanding of the role of coffee and other types of caffeine post-Sleeve. Any thoughts?
NMJG 1,266 Posted April 27, 2014 (edited) Several things: Caffeine increases acid and appetite and is a diuretic, meaning you need even more Water to counteract it. coffee itself increases acid. I stayed away during my losing phase. Now I have Decaf with cream a couple times a week and caffeine on occasion. AshleyMidwife 189 Posted April 27, 2014 My surgeon never said NO coffee. He is ok with 1-2 cups per day, as long as it's not full of sugar and fat. I am 4 and a half months out and drink coffee pretty regularly. You wanna wait until your tiny tummy is healed though, because coffee is pretty acidic and can cause heartburn and/or ulcers. Talk to your surgeon!
LindafromFlorida 1,542 Posted April 27, 2014 We drink coffee without any problem whatsoever but everyone has to make their own decision. It does not bother us at all.
cari73 64 Posted April 27, 2014 My surgeon said only Decaf coffee and tea and only 16 oz per day
Richard Foor 655 Posted April 27, 2014 This is a question that you will hear many different answers to. The different surgeons tend to answer it differently. I will tell you from my personal experience that i started drinking coffee the day after surgery in the hospital and i do mean real coffee not Decaf, and have drank it every day since. I have not had any problems with it in any way shape or form. I do drink a lot of water( usually 128 oz a day not including the coffee itself, or Protein shakes). This does not mean it will be true for everyone, as everyone is different, just my personal experience. Good Luck. 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
