I today I was talking to a co-worker about my current weight loss. I haven't had the surgery yet but everyone knows I'm having it. I have no problems telling people but now I'm having a problem. I'm excited about losing almost 40 pounds since my highest weight in January. I went with what my dietician told me to do, stuck with tracking my calories, stopped drinking soda, I go to Zumba twice a week. I cut out all junk food... Anyways, I'm excited about getting the surgery in 4 months (from today actually) I'm one month smoke free, and still able to lose weight. To get to my point, today I had a second coworker tell me not to bother with the surgery that I'm doing well as it is without it. I'm currently 338 and started at 375. I want the surgery to help and to maintain. I've lost weight before, 60 pounds on south beach.. Then gained it all back, plus another 30. Has anyone else had this problem?

That's why I haven't told anyone. Most people-including me at one time-proceed under a lot of false notions and information. Most people are stupid, as well...so that's a bad combo. Educating them on something they personally see no reason to do will just blow over their eyebrows and wave their hair around as it zooms over their heads. Don't bother. Smile, and tell them things will work out just fine.

Congrats on your weight loss so far! We have about the same stats.. my all time highest weight in december was 372..as of my last weigh in i was 336, although im convinced i have gained a few of those lbs back over the past couple of weeks. I wouldn't worry too much about what your coworker says. Most people are ignorant about weight loss. I'm pretty sure most people here have went through several yo yo diets, losing a good amount of weight only to gain it back plus more. I know tons about losing weight but just couldn't keep it off, which resulted in deciding to get surgery.

I had this too! It's frustrating but at the same time I tried to change the way I thought about it. Lots of people said to me, you're doing so well on the pre-op diet you can definitely just keep going, don't worry about the surgery. I even had that from my husband before the surgery lol I think surgery just seems so extreme to people, and especially if they love you they don't want you to have to go through pain/suffering. Just kindly explain that you're doing great because the surgery is motivating you, but you have tried many things before and it is very difficult to stick to these sorts of diets for the length of time people like us need to, in order to get to a healthy weight. They really think they are helping/showing you they care, they don't realise how frustrating it is lol

Xx good luck with everything, you're doing so great!

"Haha! I'm only so focused because I'm looking forward to the surgery!"

Seriously that was my motivation when I was doing low-carb last year (lost a few lbs) before my surgery... it was because I just wanted to make sure I could do it... LOL. I did low-carb for like a month, from thanksgiving til Christmas... Then I basically felt like "well it's not like they've scheduled my surgery...." So I went on a Key Lime Pie binge vacation! I was down in the Keys and decided to just have everyone's version of Key Lime Pie. LOL.

Idk how much I lost while low-carb vs how much I gained back... (Overall I was down from 392 to 375 at my pre-surgery appt) But the week after NewYears, my doc office finally called to schedule me... And then I started my "food funerals". Which of course included more key lime pie...as well as mcdonalds, pizza, etc....

(On the plus side, most Greek yogurt comes in Key Lime flavor, so yay for that!! LOL.)

But seriously... The motivation of there being an END to the counting and dieting and such... That's what got me through the pre-surgery diet, etc. And sure it was awesome to lose 20 lbs in two weeks on the pre-surgery diet... But that diet sucked!!! No way I could have sustained it any longer. I was so relieved to finally just have surgery, so part of my brain could rest.

I get the response of "but you arent that big" I'm big enough to be looked down on for being fat! I think people who arent familiar with it see it as a last resort for someone who is bedridden or something. Here in Oklahoma most people I know have known someone who has done the surgery. But if they say something about just losing the weight then I just question them about their dieting history. What diet has worked for you? How much did you lose? Did you gain any back? That usually shuts them up. Lol

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
