Snacks post op? Food portions?

Hi everyone! i am 5 days post op! i started at 268 i am 246 today. took my first shower and removed the gauze. i am not hungry at all but i miss the sensation of chewing. Things smell funny and sorbets taste super sweet. i couldn't stomach Jello yet. is anyone else having serious gas pains? its like in my chest and everytime i pass gas it seems internal or i am going to poop myself i know too much info but its strange!! i feel achy and sore, its hard getting p from sitting position but its manageable. im still taking liquid Percocet for pain but instead of every 4 hours i am doing every 7 hours to stretch it out. i am sleeping on the couch w hubby bc i can't lay down yet. i have been walking everyday- i walked an hour yesterday i think i overdid it. any advice or things i should prepare for? lol hope everyone is doing great! sorry i was MIA for a few days- between surgery and my mom had a stroke it has been a long week. any advice???

Wondering what Snacks will be good to keep in the house full time when I can eat solids? And also what is the total amount of food we should eat each meal?? Like 3oz chicken ----oz veggies etc.

Hi there! Congrats on the weight loss. Way to go! Im sorry to hear about your moms health issues. Thats alot even without having just gone through your surgery. I hope maybe you have siblings that can help you out with her.

Yeah, food can taste strange after surgery... and I dont know why. I have thrown ou

t some stuff I thought I would enjoy... example a lemon sorbet. But..... im eating tons of sugar-free popsicles. They really sooth the stomach, melt and go down easy and a treat for the tongue. I chop them up and eat with a spoon from a bowl.

Gas pains are normal and your system is getting back to normal slowly... it will take some time... perhaps a couple weeks to know for sure if its gonna be a fart or something more... almost always just a fart... but, be near a restroom just in case.

Walking is very important and has huge benefits...will help you feel better.... but there is no reason you have to walk for one solid hour. Break it up in sections if you can. I am blessed to be able to visit disneyland... not going on attractions... just walking... find a bench to rest and people watch and walk a little more. When I break it up like that I probably walk 4 hrs for the day in small increments. I take Water and Protein drinks with me... but I ask the chefs for special meals like broth or refried Beans etc... the are happy to accomodate.

Of course I am not a dr... but, a dr did prescribe the pain meds for you. You had major surgery. At 5 days out I was not "stretching" out the intervals... I am just at two weeks post surgery and am now starting to decrease the amount of meds... but, its really not "pain" as it is soreness.

I am 3 days post op and the gas pain has been the biggest challenge so far. Burping is fairly painful and I agree it feels like its just internal, not actually relieving any pressure. But farting has been very relieving. I hope I don't get to the point that I am guessing if the releases are more than just gas, but I can deal with that when/if it becomes a problem.

I also dismissed quite a few items I thought I would not need. I thought broth and shakes world be a mainstay for me. But after reading Mickeys post perhaps I will mix in some sugar free treats like Jello and Popsicles.

I am finding that my pouch can hold or process alot more than I thought. I was keeping to 1oz intervals every 15 to 30 minutes but found I could either increase the frequency or portions. Not sure if this is common but I have be trying to avoid testing the boundaries of my new pouch.

For the first six months I wasn't allowed any Snacks other than Protein Shakes and Greek yogurt. Meal sizes were 3 oz total - either 2 oz high Protein food (meat, tofu, etc.) + 1 oz. veggies or low sugar fruit, or 3 oz. high protein food. I am 10 months out now and 90% of the time stick with the same snacking rule. My meals are a little bigger but I keep the proportions the same - 2/3 meat, 1/3 veggies/fruit.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
