I was banded on Wednesday. As of tonight I am still having a very uncomfortable pain that feels like it is my upper stomach, diaphragm area. I can't tell if it is actual pain or maybe I'm hungry? My intestines sound like they are grinding rocks, you can literally hear it across the room. And I have diarrhea. I definitely have not over eaten, I've been afraid to eat so I have had Water, juice and broth in small quantities. And my abdomen is still pretty swollen and sort of hard.

So.....is all this normal?

Noise and diarrhea are normal. If you can't tell if it's hunger or pain, it might be normal postop irritation, but if it gets worse instead of better each day, call your doc.

Sounds normal-ish so far. I am only one day ahead of you and today is my first day feeling good. Keep an eye on your symptoms and call the doc if they get worse not better.

call or email your doc with your symptoms. It may just be the excess gas left over from surgery. It was put into the cavity to help with the visuals during surgery. It has to be reabsorbed back into the body and the best way to get that done is to move. If too painful take some of the pain meds they sent you home with. I went on youtube and found leslie sansone's 1 mile walk video.

always call your doctor/nurse if you are feeling something you don't understand...but it does sound like gas to me...you need to try to get up and move around more...and sip, sip, sip your fluids...no foods right now!!! hang in there you will be fine and doing great in no time!!!

that sounds pretty normal. at first i thought mine was hunger, but it actually ended up being gas. i had diarrhea the first few days, but then i got plugged up and the pain got even worse. i took milk of magnesia (YUCK) and that really helped with the gas pain. good luck and hang in there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
