So Discouraged - Please Help

Recommended Posts

Hi, I need help, suggestions, assistance:

It has been almost 2 months since I've lost any weight. I keep teetering around the same weight. I've had 2 fills. I'm not over eating, at least I don't think so. I eat till I'm full. I eat low fat, even my snack food is low fat, low calorie.

I'm thinking about going back to the all liquid diet for a couple of days - has anyone ever done this? Does it help?

PLEASE - I'm getting really discouraged, I so want to succeed!:faint:

Sorry you are going through this. I was banded on 1/19. Have not had fill yet. Actually having my first one later today. I know how frustrating it is to not lose any weight after doing what you are supposed to do. I have been experiencing this for like the past month and half. The typical questions, are you eating the right amount of calories, Proteins, carbs & fliuds? Are you exercising? My doc told me 1,000-1,100 calories per day. I have heard that it takes several fills before you can get the right restriction. Varies from person to person.Perhaps you just haven't reached the right fill amount yet. I will be praying that you see a change soon.

I have periods where I plateau for awhile and then the weight eventually starts to come off again. Just reevaluate your calories, exercise, etc. Maybe you are going too low on calories and fat. Try to find non-scale victories as well. Are you measuring inches? Sometimes we lose there when the scale isn't showing results. Hang in there!

Thank you - I am eating about 1000 calories a day, and exercising 3 times a week. I think I am more depressed now with notloosing than I was before I had surgery. I have not measured, but I haven't noticed any change in my clothes.

This is what I ate yesterday

This is what I ate yesterday

1/2 bagel with 1 tsp FF cream cheese

3 oz chicken with steamed veggies and 1/4 cup Pasta

3 oz chicken thigh with asparagus and green Beans, about 1/2 cup each

4 oz of pineapple juice

1/2 cup of reduced fat trail mix (70 calories)

10 reduced fat pretzels (90 calories)

Should I be eating more Protein? This is typically what I eat, I may have salad for lunch with some deli meat. Maybe I just need another fill. :help:

Sometimes the body just doesn't want to give up any pounds. This can coincide with a loss of inches, or it can coincide with a whole lot of nothing (aka "stall" or "plateau"). I can count the pounds I've lost since December on one hand, so I know it all too well. Sometimes it just happens, and all we can do is hang in there and wait for it to pass.

As for your menu:

Seems really high in carbs. Bagel, fruit juice, Pasta, pretzels... and the only Protein I see is 6 oz of chicken. If I were you, I would cut the carbs in favor of Protein. With that menu, there's no way you're meeting your daily protein minimum (about 60gm). You're maybe hitting half of where you need to be - maybe. Instead of a fruit juice, have a protein drink/bar. Instead of a bagel, have an egg, or have egg on it instead of cream cheese. Be careful with deli meat, it's loaded with bad-for-you fillers, and lots of sodium. The natural variety (e.g. Boar's Head) are best, but homemade is even better.

And personally, I've never found the carb count on FF products to be worth the trade off. Sometimes you're swapping 1gm fat for 30gm carb. Why so much focus on low fat? Is that something your surgeon recommended? Sounds like you're trying to be "on a diet" to me.

Oh yeah, salad = crunchy Water, drizzled with fat and topped with fat and carbs. You could put that space in your pouch to MUCH better use. :D

I find the more I stay away from carbs and the more protien I eat the more weight I lose. It's VERY hard for me to stay away from carbs because I love Pasta and potatoes so when I do have them I make myself eat the Protein first, then I eat the carbs if I'm still hungry. I even eat my protein before I eat veggies. I usually will eat the meat first, then the veggies second and carbs last if I'm still hungry.

If you want my honest opinion if you don't get a fill I would definitely cut down a bit. Take out the bagel for sure and add Protein, even a Protein shake would be good. You are eating too much food. 3oz of chicken and a 1/4 cup of Pasta indicates that. I would say you should be eating no more than 2 oz of protein and not even be able to come close to eating the pasta. You also should be filled enough not to finish the green Beans and aspargus, even though they are good for you.

Trail mix is good. Almonds would be even better, just a few. Looks like you are carb loading a little later in the day. I woud say if anything maybe a 100 calorie bag of popcorn might be a better idea. It is quite filling. I hope this helps you. I stick to 800-1k calories a day and I am steady losing now. I really think you need a fill. It sounds like you are eating a lot. Good luck.

Thanks, I will try that. I thought eating the salad and low fat products would expedite my weight loss. I'm willing to try anything. I'm not much on the Protein Bars, haven't found one that tastes good. Can you recommend a good one - they usually taste like flavored card board.

I agree pretty much with everyone else, too many carbs IMO. Instead of bagel, why not try an egg white omlett, the chicken is great source of Protein. Instead of trail mix, which is loaded in sugar carbs, why not try SF yogurt, you'll get some added protein as well. Or some low fat cottage cheese, again, more protein and less carbs. Skip the pinapple juice all together - way too much sugar, which also spikes hunger. Lately, my menu or eating has gone up in carbs, however, I've increased my exercise but I'm going to be cutting out some of the carbs as well.

Another suggestion, Take your measurements. I take mine 1 x per month, I'm coming up on my 3 month anniversary and can't wait to see how many inches I've lost.

you might add just 30 min a day of walking or some type of movement/exercise to your other exercise. 5 x's a week exercise is the best to lose weight, 3 x's is for maintenance. So just add some 30 min of brisk walking in there. Give it another 30 days and compare your results. Take your measurements first, then 30 days later, take them again, you'll be amazed at the inches lost, even if the scales shows little.

Also, keep a food log of everything that goes into your mouth, every bite. Sometimes we are eating without realizing it. I found I was eating candy everytime I passed by this girls desk, didn't even realize it until I started keeping a journal. I added the calories up and I was eating another 250 calories a day. I stopped that habit real quick. lol.

I agree with everyone else, You need to remember that they stress Protein at every meal and eat the ProteinFirst. Since I had the surgery I ahve not had bread or Pasta or anything like that at all altough I love bread. My understanding is that bread has too much gluten and it tends to clump and not dissolve fast enough. The bagel with cheese according to my dietitian is carb and fat, she counts cream chese as fat..

I agree with all the above experts. Also join sparkpeople.com to track what you eat. It is free and oh so easy. I found that although I was eating enough Protein, I was also eating too much fat so I adjusted my choice of Proteins. Also as much as we like Bagels and such-they are not complex carbs, but simple carbs, a definate no no for everyday consumption. Plus-did you know that most whole bagels are so big they are close to 600 calories?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
