I had my Lap-band procedure done on April 4th 2014. I lost 15 lbs on the liquid diet prior to surgery and 6 lbs in the first week and a half after. I saw my surgeon that day and he said I was doing wonderful and that normally you do not loose weight right after surgery because you are in healing mode. I was so excited to be ahead of the game. He told me that I would start weight loss mode after my first fill on April 30th. He said that between now and then I should wean myself off of the Protein Shakes and eat regular healthy food. High Protein (60g) and low carb. I walk 3 miles a day at a brisk pace getting well over 10,000 steps according to my fitbit device. I HAVE GAINED ALL 6 lbs BACK!! Someone please tell me why!! I'm trying harder than I've ever tried on any diet and I feel like a complete failure! My biggest fear was that this surgery wouldn't work. HELP!

Relax, it's all normal and happens to many bandster's. And trust in your doctor. He's right, you don't lose much fat till your band is adjusted properly. The weight we lose post surgery is mostly Water so when you start up on solids again, your body restores it's previous Water retention level. Read this article:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
