3 days post op and loving it

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone:) my surgery was approved by my insurance really fast (consultation was in mid march and I had my surgery Wednesday, April 23rd. I spent 2 nights in the hospital and I am at home in my recliner relaxing on the pain meds. My pre op diet was 10 days of liquids and 3 Protein Shakes a day. I was MISERABLE!! I cheated on day 6 and then threw a little gym time in my pre op diet for the last 4 days. I was in the OR by 11 and 2 hours later I was in recovery 1 and moved to recovery 2 as soon as I was responding to wait for my room. I am not going to lie and say this isn't painful, because it is but my high appetite and food cravings were always my issues and I am amazed how non existent my appetite is. Thursday morning I had an upper GI test to check for leaks and since I passed I was cleared for Clear Liquids. I ate 2 small bites of Jello, 4-5 spoons of chicken broth, 2 sips of unsweetened tea and I was FULL. I love this and I am extremely excited for my journey ahead. The only downfall for me is I have a 19 month old daughter who doesn't understand why mommy can't play and wrestle with her like usual. A couple weeks and all should change in that area:):)

It's so encouraging to read such posts. I Hv a 18 month old , and my major concern is not being able to pick her. Good luck for ur recovery. I m scheduled for 1st may.

You have to focus on the positive. It's really not as miserable afterward. I mean I hurt but that's going to be over in a few days and I get to start my new way of living and I'm excited!

I'm having surgery in a few weeks and my 2yr old is very active too. I know it's for my greater good and even for his but it sucks to have to say "no". My 9yr old says he'll play for me! Lol

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
