Help! Redness (looks like a big hive), no tenderness but warm to touch on tummy

Recommended Posts

I had my band placed in 2004 (mexico patient). Tonight, when I got home from dinner and kept feeling tightness on my tummy, looked like it was a bit swollen, like I had a reaction to something initially. Now, it's 5 hours later, when I bend, I feel the swelling, like I am bending "over something." A bit of warmth to touch. Not a lot of history w/pbing or anything. Does this sound like a port infection? The area covered is around the port. My last care was in DC, but, I am no where near the area. I know I have got to be seen, but, I don't think any docs here will know what to do. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you had a fill recently or any access to your port? I think port infections are usually caused during surgery, or during a fill when the area has been 'messed with'.

Keeping in mind that it could be totally unrelated, I'd make an appointment to see your PCP right away, or go to the ER if it keeps getting worse.

I have seen a doc in DC. I had an upper GI w/fluro. Everything looks good, blood panels came back great. So, I will have a endoscopy done next week, if all is well, it's not the band. And, the great thing is that I will get a fill the following day. The redness subsided and most of the pain on it's own, over the past few days.

We will see...

Thanks for input and concerns.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
