Any 2014 June Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I went today for my final meeting with the weight loss center..I went straight to the surgeons office and made my pre-op appt for next Thursday the 29th...I was told it could be as soon as 2 weeks from that date for surgery..I am to start my pre-op diet of 2 Protein Shakes and sensible low carb dinner. I also have to do a 2 day liquid diet 48 hrs prior to surgery...like so many on here I am excited and nervous too.. I have thought about this surgery for some time now but I had my first appt on April 1st so it has moved rather quickly..I have insurance through BCBS and it only took them 3 business days to approve this surgery... Good luck everyone!!

Hi Angela, best of luck to you too!

I couldn't find a June Sleevers forum. If there is one already please direct me!

Well anyway, I'm glad excited that I finally got a date, June 5th.

I am scheduled for June 5th also. I get nervous on and off. Pre diet is not very pleasant but I want the surgery to be without any complications so I have been super compliant. My food cravings have lessened and I am no longer dreaming of cooking like the first week. I'm with journeylite and they gave me the foods I have to eat up until the day of surgery so I didn't have to put much thought into it - which is a good thing.
RNCurtin, congrats on your date! What about the pre-op diet isn't pleasant? Please share....

Hi Jenn, what a cool idea to get rid of everything that doesn't make you feel good. I think I'll do the same. So great that you are coming off meds too! I hope that will be the case with me too! June 2 is really close now...you are starting your new life now...enjoy the journey!

Good Morning future VSGers, I am scheduled June 3rd. I am getting nervous with less than 2 weeks to go. I've been watching YouTube videos of lap band to VSG, and VSG post op and results.

The one thing that I haven't done is buy any post-op products to prepare for what I will be drinking or taking after I am discharged from the hospital. There are so many products and websites out there... I am also concerned about buying products that will be gross to me after surgery, due to the common taste buds change.

It was suggested that I buy Bariatric Advantage products. But the. I've looked on bariatricchoice.com which sells all types of products. its so overwhelming... how many of you have started to shop for your post-op? What did you buy?

I'm looking forward to having more energy to be active. I'm a tennis player and I miss it. It's a great social outlet too. I'm also looking forward to introducing better, healthier eating choices to my kids.

I've bought a variety of sample packs, so I wouldn't have an overwhelming supply of anything in particular. I've got unflavored Protein Powder more than anything, figuring it can go into most everything. Other than that, I haven't started shopping for post-op yet. I plan on getting sf Popsicles, sf Jello, Soup, skim milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.

Well...pre-op really works. Just started day 4 of 800 calorie liquid diet and did a weigh in this morning. Lost 6 pounds. I am pretty imprerssed, very hungry at times, but more impressed right now. Anyone who has not started this yet, don't worry, you can do this. It is not as bad as I thought. More to come later.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
