lap band removal

Recommended Posts

i had my band taken out a week ago yesterday (Monday) and i'm still in some pain, still have drain tubes and alot of gas still. My stomach is totally messed up too. When i eat, it's like it goes straight to my intestines. my stomach does alot of gurgling and growling and noises. I will go to have sleeve in 3 months once this is healed. I'm not gaining any weight back, i still have 40 lbs to get off.

my pain lasted more then normal @@barbiegirl78 because my band was inside my stomach and i had 2 big holes in my stomach due to the band so mine was more then normal. I had an NG tube in for 2 days and had lots of black toxins coming out of my stomach area. It took me almost 5 weeks to be totally pain free. I did not take pain pills though so i just kind of toughed through it. After having that NG tube and the drains i didn't want nothing else in my body. I'm post op 7 weeks and doing good. still on mushy foods. I go tomorrow for another upper gi and if the hole is closed and healed i will be having the sleeve done on 2/23. if not healed, i will have to stay on mushy until it does heal.

Well 1 week in the hospital, X-ray, 2 ct's, colonoscopy, and exploratory laparoscopic surgery... Finally figured out the continued pain: adhesions/scar tissue.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
