Empty but still getting sick...

Recommended Posts

Even though I'm no longer pregnant I still feel more comfortable posting here :) My 2nd band baby was born last October, and during my pregnancy with him I had all of my Fluid removed, but I'm still finding myself getting "stuck" and throwing up a lot more then I should be. My husband is really worried about me and wants me to go to the dr, but with 4 kids (and 2 babies) its hard for me to get there. He thinks my band has slipped but wouldn't that be the opposite effect? I'd be able to eat and eat and eat without getting sick?

Has anyone else experienced the feeling that their band was tight when it was really empty?

a couple of things come to mind about what you are going through. firstly is your hormones. they could be causing swelling in your stoma and band. also if you are breast feeding the extra Fluid needed to keep the milk producing. if the band has slipped, having trouble eating is one of the first complaints. call your doctor right away. he needs to do the tests to determine what is going on with your band.

Not to freak you out, but the typical symptoms of a slipped band are vomiting, intense acid reflux, chest pain/pressure, and pain when eating. Since you are experiencing so much vomiting it is definitely worth going to see your doctor about!

I agree! You should get checked out. I'm getting a fill under fluoro for the first time next month because I keep getting fills and feel no change but I get stuck all the time! Looks like our babies may have kicked our bands a little too much!

Update for you ladies....I finally went and saw my dr (I know this was awhile ago I wrote this) and they did an upper GI and found my band did slip :( So they are submitting a request for bypass surgery since my band "malfunctioned" and they wont cover another band. I'm a little scared to go the bypass route but I know I need a "tool". My surgeon said because of my history of reflux I'm not a good candidate for the sleeve since reflux disease can intensify 10 x's and can aggravate the sleeve and cause damage.

If you mamas pray will you say a prayer for me that everything goes the way it should? I'll keep you all posted

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
