any juicers out there add unflavored protein

Recommended Posts

I'm having surgery soon and i love juicing (mostly vegetables), i was wondering how soon post op people drink veggie juices and has anyone found a good unflavored Protein mix to put in it.

I have not done juicing very much yet. But your thought of using the unflavored Protein mix gives me thoughts of trying it more.

I have used the Isopure unflavored mix in other dishes, but have not been pleased with the results. While there is no noticeable taste from the mix, it does not mix well when any food is heated. (It clumps terribly) Plus they say heating nullifies the Protein effect of the mix.

Additionally, trying to get in enough mix to add a decent amount of protein usually changes the consistency of very small portions (3 ounces) of food.

So I have this big jug of unflavored protein mix just taking up counter space now.

I think I'll give the juicing idea a shot. smoothies and juices add quite a bit of liquid and you can't have too much liquid. ;)

yes heat affects the Protein...try sprinkling it on your food instead...but they say to throw it into anything and everything you can...

good luck!

I add Protein powder to my juices -- have been doing it since I'd say about week 4 (I'd need to go back in my blog to see exactly when but week 4 sounds about right). I felt so much more balanced after I started juicing. My tiny tummy only seemed to have room for Protein at meals, and I was missing my veggies.

ANYways. I have tried adding unflavored, but then I found myself wanting to add splenda as well. So mostly now I like to use the Syntrax nectar protein powders (fussy navel and strawberry kiwi are my faves). Then I don't find myself wanting added sweetness. If you are already juicing and don't need the extra flavoring then by all means add unflavored -- the protein is great for you!

Love to do kale with peaches, half a small avocado, a couple of almonds and half a serving of fuzzy navel Syntrax Nectar. My other staple is spinach with blueberries & raspberries, half a small avocado, a couple of almonds and half a serving of kiwi strawberry Syntrax Nectar. (If you're early out though make sure your NUT/ surgeon has cleared you to have seeds if you do the berries cuz sometimes they leave little seeds in the juice.)

momonanomo-so is there a reason you needed to wait until 4 weeks out or do you think it could be added sooner? I have a good juicer, so it would be pure liquid, and then if i add Protein to it, seems like it could be used soon post op. What are your thoughts on that?

I just started my mushy food for two weeks post op after being on liquids for 5 weeks now and was so excited to mix my Protein Powder with kale and berries in my nutribullet...and it WAS DELISH! But I woke up in the middle of the night with horrific gas :/ could it just be my body not being used to the fruits and veggies anymore?!? I was so sad...I was so excited to 1) want to choose something as healthy as that to eat and 2) I really hope regular gas from consuming healthy whole foods isn't going to be a problem... I too have a juicer but my doc is really against all kinds of juices even the vegetable ones! and said smoothies are better to keep the Fiber in the food rather than extracting it out. Any ideas anyone? I really don't want to give up healthful food.

We use it in sugar free pudding mix and sugar free Jello whips. I have recipes on my blog but it's a very tasty way to get some protein into a "treat". We go through more unflavored Protein Powder than any of the shakes at our house.

Brooke just give it time. You'll be able to eat veggies soon enough. I can understand why your doc is against juicing. My husband and I are both very carb sensitive. After a month of green smoothies WITH all e fiber intact, our blood sugar went up 10 points. It's not for everyone.

I'm 8 months out and can get 2 c of veg in daily maybe more if I tried. It will happen

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
