So, I went into my liver shrinking diet very optimistic. I'm motivated to do well with my band, and I'm not going to let a little head hunger get in the way of my overall transformation.

I'm not gonna lie.. this SUCKS. I keep trying not to think about the hunger, but its there.

My diet consists of 2 Meal Replacement shakes (Ensure High Protein), unlimited veggies (except corn, peas, and potatoes), and 4 oz of lean Protein. Yesterday wasn't so bad, but I was also in the hospital getting bloodwork drawn, xrays, physical, and signing consent forms. Today, I'm at my office, and most Fridays, people go out to get lunch and bring it back. So I'm smelling cheesesteaks, onion rings, burgers, chipotle.

But guess what, I'm not letting any of this bother me. Soon enough, I wont even remember these next two weeks, I'll be more interested in the pounds that are dropping off! I know my head is going to be my worst enemy the next couple of weeks, but I know I can do this. I'm more motivated than ever.

Oh, and for everyone that says the band doesn't work as good as the sleeve or bypass, my nurse practitioner introduced me to a man, yesterday, who started at over 400 lbs, was banded, and has lost 100 lbs in 4 months. If that's not proof that this band can work, if you use it as a tool, then I don't know what it!!

Hope y'all have a great day!!

This is going to sound silly probably, but the pre-op liquid diet was the best thing that ever happened to me! Lol! Seriously. I thought the same thing when going through it, "this sucks!!!" But now that it's long done and over with, I can look back and appreciate all that it did for me.

Not being able to really eat for 2 weeks puts you in great place for post-op. Your stomach won't be freaking out over a sudden lack of food on top of having the new band around it. And since you have to move through the liquid to mushy to normal food stage soooo slow, you're going to be glad you already have practice at not eating much.

You'll also get a whole new appreciation for food as you move through the stages. I never thought I'd be so excited for refried Beans in my entire life. And never before had I longed for vegetables and salads.

The best thing that came out of my pre-op diet though was that I was able to get my carb addiction under control. Things like bread and rice are no-no's in the post op diet for a while and you'll be so excited about the foods you can eat, you won't miss them at first. Eventually though, you'll be able to eat basically whatever you want again. I just never added starchy carbs like potatoes and white bread back into my diet. I still crave them on occasion, but it's much easier to say no now. I would never have been able to cut out carbs on my own though!! It was all because of the pre-op diet. It set it all in motion for me.

So I know the pre-op diet sucks, but you're going to get through it! You already have a great positive attitude about everything so I know you're going to do great :) best of luck to you!

@ nailed it. I had a long post-op liquids phase by most standards (6 weeks), after a five day Clear Liquids pre-op. Talk about cleansing your system. It was hard, but doable. I'm glad it's over, but grateful for the benefits it gave me.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
