No candy. I try so hard to low carb and candy is my sabotage. Thank goodness I can't eat much, but it's still my demon.

Realizing that I would still be hungry, and that every day was not weight loss day. That despite having cut out 85% of my stomach, I would still have to be very careful what I ate and how much I ate. Every. Single. Day.

Good subject.

I struggle with the drinking as well...I have been working on waiting the full 30 minutes after a meal as I have been at a plateau, and figured that should help.

I think we all have to come to grips with the fact that we still have to work on this...it's not a miracle surgery, it's a tool to help us... I've been "maintaining" beautifully...but the problem is I still have more I want to lose...so I am planning on doing the 5 day plan next week!

I miss my Diet Pepsi with a vengeance :( I see someone sipping on a soda and I feel anger. I miss that fizz!! I drank a lot and oh how I miss the taste.

@Avryv have you had the surgery yet? your stats say April 2014, so I wasn't sure. I was a TOTAL coke-aholic...I had a 2 liter bottle (easy) of diet coke every day... I don't drink coffee. I thought I would DIE without it ... LOL... but now, I'm good... after the first few days of my liquid diet, I was set... now I don't miss it at all.

My husband has even reduced his carbonated beverages...one of the things he loves is his Water with a bit of vanilla Torani Syrup and a dash of carmel syrup in it... he said it's like cream soda... or something ... I haven't tried that....but those syrups now line up on the counter in our kitchen and we use them a lot...they are GREAT and cheaper than Mio, etc :)

@@BigGirlPanties Yes, I had my surgery 2 weeks ago. I haven't had a Diet Pepsi since March 30th. (I cut it out during my pre liquid diet) I was fine the first 3 weeks but this week has been hard. I find myself craving it :( I have tried to find something else to fill that urge but no success yet. I do have some of those syrups that we used for hot cocoa but I couldn't imagine them being good with just Water.. haha!

@Avryv yes just like using mio or any other flavoring...even the crystal light... and there is a website to help you "mix it up"...but I've never looked at the recipes.

You can add it to your Protein shakes to change up the flavors as well, helps get rid of the "boring" aspect, especially while still on liquids!

We get the big bottles from World Market for about $7 each. Bed, Bath and Beyond started carrying some called "Skinny Girl", I believe, I got pomegranate, which was good in my tea :)

Yeah girl, MIX IT UP!!!

I am still on liquids but I think so far the hardest part was giving up coffee. Now that I haven't had it it doesn't bother me as much. At least the headaches have ceased. I know once I am eating solids again I will have problems choosing the right foods to eat and the no drinking before and after meals!

The idea that I cant indulge on eating an 8 oz ribeye and a baked potato with salad is a biggie for me. I will be happy when I can eat solid food again and maybe ill just order steak and potato from the kids menu.

I (basically) don't eat any starch/carbs and I don't miss it...I order my Protein with double veggies and I'm good for a few days...

At home, we barely have any starchy items in the house... We have one restaurant we go to that has these wonderful, warm LITTLE roll...and I may have one of those on occasion...little bits of heaven...but that's it!

I thought the hardest thing was going to be giving up coffee. Surprisingly, I don't miss it, so far. What I miss is having a big, satisfying meal. I'm still going through mental withdrawal.

Hardest things for me is definitely missing my diet coke. I can't even look at a bottle of it without feeling sad. And also just enjoying food. It's all such a chore to eat now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
