Please help, food makes me sick

Recommended Posts

I'm so discouraged right now. I am a month out of my surgery and everything makes me nauseous. I can keep liquid down fine, but any kind of food makes me want to gag. Is this normal. I feel like I made such a horrible mistake getting this surgery.

It is pretty normal. I wasn't even on solid food at 4 weeks. I would say it took me until more like 6-8 weeks out before I felt better. Then, I had months of just zero interest in food - like eating was a chore. That is what helped me lose over 150#. It does get better in time, I am over 2 years out now and feel great and have for a long time.

You will get more input and feedback if you post this in a separate thread in the post surgery forum though!

Hang in there.

@srivers76 it is normal, but you need to call your doctor to get something to take to ease the discomfort...it will pass...but right now, you are feeling miserable, so CALL!!!

Also ginger helps with nausea...you can get tablets/capsules in the Vitamin aisle, or add fresh ginger to some of your Protein drinks...the taste is pretty mild... I've heard that if you put a slice in your mouth and just hold it for a few minutes, it helps; but I haven't tried it... but yes, you should post to the regular forum to get more assistance, but really the bottom line is, call your doctor, as it may also be that you are not getting in enough liquids and may be dehydrated, which causes nausea as well

Good luck...it will work out! Promise! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
