I'm here if anyone has any questions about the teenage aspect of it or well any aspect of it. I'll talk about anything so feel free to message me if you are a teenager, parent of someone who needs one, know someone who needs one....ect

Hello, I was happy to read your post..I was an overweight child my whole life. It wasnt until I first went to school that I knew I was different from the other kids. It was very hard to socialize and fit in like "normal" kids my age. Good for you for getting this done early, I just wish I could have had the same oppertunity!! Good luck!!

I met a girl who was banded at 16 too. I haven't seen her in a while so I don't know how she is doing. You are doing great. Julie

Hi MeggieG, I am so happy you are doing this, so open to help others. I have my daughter who is 20 years old, lives at home, in 2nd year of University. I was banded on 3/27/07 @ Dr Ortiz (wonderful care). For me the hardest part is that 21 day of liquid (I cheat). My daughter would so much like to get a band, but I am afraid to spend that kind of money and for her not to adhere to the regimen. When she goes out with her friends, THEY EAT! So, I'm afraid that she would constantly force herself to eat, then vomit and get sick all the time. I also feel that anything you don't pay for, you do not appreciate. So, I told her to get a student loan, hoping that she would appreciate it more. What do you think?

Congratulations to you. You are doing EXCELLENT!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Can I ask where you got your band and were you self pay or did insurance pay for it? I am just wondering I have a daughter who is also almost 16 and she has struggled for years with weight and we are looking into it for myself and for her. Our insurance does not cover her until she is 18:cry

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
