ToshaLarkins 5 Posted April 24, 2014 I just had all the Fluid taken out of my band because i got food stuck at the band. Last night I was trying to eat meat loaf and it all came back up. What the heck is up with this? Hamburger is a soft food! 2 judych and Mikee57 reacted to this
enjoythetime 1,457 Posted April 24, 2014 Oh no, sorry to hear this happened!!! Oddly enough ground hamburger has been the hardest thing for me to eat. I can eat it, and I've never gotten stuck on it but I can tell that if I don't chew it to a pulp then I will. Beef in general is harder for me to digest, again I still eat it just not very often because it wears me out:-) but when I do I take teenie tiny bites and chew chew chew. I hope you get better and things get back on track. Please keep us posted!!! 4 Debbie3sons, Mikee57, 2muchfun and 1 other reacted to this
2muchfun 8,927 Posted April 24, 2014 Meatloaf works for me but I still have to eat very small bites, chew a lot and take my time. Sometimes catsup helps it slide through. 4 Mikee57, ☠carolinagirl☠, enjoythetime and 1 other reacted to this
Sharpie 3,306 Posted April 24, 2014 yes I agree with all . I can eat hamburger but it helps to have something either gravy or sauce . dry meat of any kind will not sit well in my band. White meat chicken is the most difficult. 5 Mikee57, Debbie3sons, ☠carolinagirl☠ and 2 others reacted to this
ToshaLarkins 5 Posted April 25, 2014 It seems weird why some foods will stay down while others will not. I never know what is going to come back up and I don't like that. Trying really hard to not be disappointed in my decision to have the surgery. 1 Mikee57 reacted to this
judych 225 Posted April 25, 2014 I just had all the Fluid taken out of my band because i got food stuck at the band. Last night I was trying to eat meat loaf and it all came back up. What the heck is up with this? Hamburger is a soft food! it could be possible that you may have to give up meat..... my dr. talked to me about that. Ive had some saline taken out of my band and im gaining weight. i have a refill in a week and cant wait. i had inflammation of the gut so dr took saline out. Now i have to make extra effort to lose the weight ive gained. I have most Protein with legumes.... lots of good Soups etc. they are really tasty and filling. my Iron levels are normal. 1 Mikee57 reacted to this
2muchfun 8,927 Posted April 25, 2014 So, your band is empty now and you got stuck on hamburger. Did you take a very small bite and chew it to mush? 2 Mikee57 and Debbie3sons reacted to this
Brooke77 16 Posted April 25, 2014 My doc says no hamburger ever again. We had a big discussion about it prior to banding. He said it causes problems for many people and it's best to sub turkey or chicken that's ground...just thought I'd share He has lots of rules but I'm guessing it's because of what he's seen in office. Just thought I'd share 2 enjoythetime and Mikee57 reacted to this

A little bit goes a long way though. Thats fine. So long as i can get a taste. 2 2muchfun and Mikee57 reacted to this
2muchfun 8,927 Posted April 25, 2014 My doctor, all the different manuals and YouTube videos I've been exposed to have never condemned any particular food in regards to the band. In fact, the entire idea behind the band is that we can enjoy the foods we love but enjoy them in much smaller quantities. My question to those who state their doctor or nut said no to certain foods, are you interpreting their statements correctly? We got a lot of information thrown at us in seminars, orientation and nut classes. It would be easy to confuse "no beef or shrimp" for the first 6 months with no beef or shrimp ever?? Or did the doctor say, "many patients don't tolerate beef, hamburger or shrimp so I don't recommend eating these foods till you're familiar with how your band will react? For me, the beauty of the band is that it gives me the satiety with very small amounts and with any foods(except sliders of course). food eaten as we bandster's have been trained to eat, should include most all foods. However, there are those who prefer a very tight band and some meats, breads and consistencies will never work. 4 Mikee57, judych, enjoythetime and 1 other reacted to this
fullercor 17 Posted April 25, 2014 Sous Vide cooking is the best method. I have no problems with any meats done this way and cooked to medium. Very moist and juicy. I have the Anova immersion circulator and absolutely love it!! 1 Mikee57 reacted to this
ToshaLarkins 5 Posted April 25, 2014 Dear Fullercor, I have never heard of sous vide cooking method. What is it? And what is a Anova immersion circulator? 1 Mikee57 reacted to this
Bandista 7,466 Posted April 26, 2014 For me, ground beef is too stringy unless I cook it myself. For hamburger, I sauté in very hot pan until brown on both sides (no oil, just very hot pan) and then I start pouring in STOCK -- usually homemade but not always; there are lots of good boxed stocks available in regular supermarkets. The beef breaks down and becomes very soft. I do this for chili and bolognese (ground beef and red sauce). I have not tried meatloaf yet but my husband is Celiac (no wheat) and I make meatloaf with oatmeal. People go wild for this meatloaf and I don't even make the red sauce myself -- I just use jarred stuff. I think I'll make some meat loaves this weekend! I have done them in muffin tins before; our kid calls those "meat cookies." 2 Mikee57 and judych reacted to this
Bandista 7,466 Posted April 26, 2014 Oh and sous vide, I'm sorry but I can't wrap my head around cooking in plastic. But, hey, whatever works! 1 Mikee57 reacted to this
