Does anyone know exactly what blood work is needed for pre-op?

Basically to make sure you are healthy enough for surgery, no infectious processes, or other surprises when you get to the operating room. For instance, my sister has a chronically low platelet count, I don't know if it's genetic or not, but I sure don't want to wait until I'm bleeding out on the operating table to find out!

Do you know what test they run? I know it's chemistry blood work but I thought there was another one as well. I'm trying to get my blood work, EKG, and chest X-ray before I go to my consultation. And I'm not sure what blood test need to be ordered.

I had the blood work done previously when I was thinking about having the lap-band (didn't go through with it). I know they did chemistries (like a chem 12, or a Complete Metabolic Panel), a Thyroid stimulating Hormone, a T3 (another thyroid hormone), Vitamin D, and a complete blood count. That's all I remember, though.

. The surgeon has you go see your primary doctor about 2-3 weeks before your surgery and to get a letter of medical clearance, they do about 8 diff blood tests. The surgeon gives you a piece of paper with all the tests needed when the time is right, you also get the EKG, the h pylori breath test. I wouldn't do any of them until he asks you too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
