2 weeks band to sleeve update

Recommended Posts

Today makes 2 weeks since I have been sleeved, had my band in 2005 and had it removed and sleeved on 4/2014,,,,I was sleeved by dr charlotte hodges with the Barker Bariatrics team. I am so thankful that I have not had any complications. I went to surgery on a Wednesday at 630am and was released on Thursday at 120pm...I walked everyday for 1 mile my first week and then 2 miles my 2nd week. I am currently down 17.5 pounds..I am Nervous, I am Scared and I am Hopeful......I was very tired/sleepy the first 3 days but after that I was feeling back normal again. I go back to work in another week and boy am I ready.....I have no pain in my port area nor have I had any, my only pain was in the incision where they removed my stomach...Today its only sore when I wake up in the morning from laying on it during sleep....good luck to everyone, I know its scary but I believe if we stay compliant and focused we can do this!! I hope my update helps someone!! I am very new but you can IM or Pm me anytime, thanks

Congratulations!!! I'm so happy to hear your good news! It seems like a lot of comments are posted where the patient is NOT doing well or having problems, so it's nice to hear your positive experience too! I want to hear everyone's comments so I can be as informed as possible when my surgery date comes up. I'm so excited to begin this new chapter in my life!!! Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work! Your positive attitude will help get you through anything!!! Thanks!

Hi Misfitn2014, I am a Texas girl too. I had my surgery on April 16th at 4:00 in the afternoon and I was released at 3:20 the next day. I was up walking the halls by 7 that night. I was sleepy the first couple of days,, but by the third day I was doing pretty good. The third day after surgery was my daughter's senior prom, so was up helping her get ready and then went to the pre-party with all the other parents taking pictures. I was socializing and taking pictures, no one at the party had any idea I had anything done. I didn't tell them either, later when I get more comfortable with things. The parents all decided to go out to eat at a Mexican restaurant, so my husband and I went too. I order a cup of tortilla Soup, an just spooned out the broth. Everyone was socializing and having a great time so no one was paying attention to me. I felt like I handled everything great, and was pleased that I was doing so well.

Great comment. Your experience will help somebody with their decision. Mine was a little bit more painful and I was in the hospital longer, but we are all different. I am retired so I don't have to worry about going to work. I do have little kids to help take care of and they keep us busy. I am a little over 5 weeks post-op now. I am eating a normal diet again, but I can't eat much. I can really feel when I am getting too full. It is a very uncomfortable feeling. I still do lots of liquids like Soup broth. It is nice to not feel that plugged up feeling from the band anymore. Take care and good luck to you.

I had my lap band removed a year and ago and have just been approved for the sleeve. i was really hoping to do the bypass but my doctor wants me to do the sleeve. I really hope its not like the band, I did not have success with it. Please give me any advice. thanks

To me the sleeve is much safer. It's something abt the bmi the reason why ur dr probably want u to get the bypass. When I was in the hospital my roommate had the bypass and she was so sick. So ur dr might know what's good for you and how much trauma your body can take in that area

Your update definitely helped me...It is good to read all these comments about people who are doing well. I am trying to focus on the positive. I had my pre surgical testing today and I am all set for surgery May 6th! I can't wait! Now to get through two weeks of liquids...Glad you are doing well!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
