Aes85 0 Posted April 23, 2014 Hi everyone, I have been stalking these forums for months and now I am so happy to be a part of it! I'm having RNY gastric bypass on May 21st, and I have been taking doxycycline for about 1 1/2 months for acne, and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was not good to take it before surgery, or if it shouldn't affect my surgery. I had read somewhere that doxycycline can increase liver enzymes? I am not sure how valid that statement is but it has caught my attention knowing that we want to shrink our liver as much as possible before surgery. Do you guys have any personal experiences with doxycycline before surgery?
AZ/Janice 4 Posted April 25, 2014 You might have to stop taking it two weeks before your surgery. I would ask your doctor. You probably have a bunch of pre-op classes to go to so that is another great place to ask questions about medication. I have Blue Cross as my insurance & they have a nurse that is following me through the whole thing. She calls to see how I am doing & I have her number in case I have questions. Check with your insurance & see if you have something similar available to you. My surgery is 5/1 & I am so ready & prepared. I just can't wait to get started. Good luck to you! Aes85 0 Posted April 25, 2014 I found out from my doctor that I can take it up to one day before surgery :-) it must not really affect anything essential during surgery
