Hi I am new and nervous

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I am new to this site but it has been great to read and learn from everyone. I just was scheduled yesterday for surgery on may 1st. I knew I wantd to have the surgery but now that it is real I am getting nervous and second guessing my decision. I lov the site but it has helped scare me. I have read about some of the complications people have had and seen a lot of people have had the band removed. I know that is a rare occation but you know this is a life changing decision. anyway I have a 18 month old and my husband and i want another baby, so that was something that I was wondering if anyone had any advise about. My dr said that it will be fine after a year but then i saw someone had to have the band removd bc they got pregnant. I want to do what is best for me and my family and i am 99% sure this is it but there is that nasty 1% creeping in my brain so any encouragment would be greatly appreciated

Hi Kaiasmom I have not had my surgery yet also. I am going to the seminar next Tuesday, so I am in the early stages. Yes this is a good site but it also prepares you for what may happen. Don't be scared. This may be your as is mind answer to complete weight loss. We can talk together and help each other with info. Go to Nancysmiles and she has a great check list to prepare yourself and have a list of needs before surgery. I thought it is a great tool.

Hi, I have been banded for 10 months and love it. Don't be scared, it is totally natural. Just ask your surgeon about getting pregnant. They can always unfill your band if its required. Good luck with your surgery.

You have done real good, did you have to go in for a fill after surgery. A lot of the people on this site said nothing happened until the went in for a fill. One person said they didn't loose any weight and was munching all day. Oh and how long were you in hospital?

I know we have had several successful babies after banding and the mommies had lots less trouble losing the "baby weight".

The beauty of the band is that if you find yourself pregnant, you can just get an unfill and it will be almost like you don't have the band, at all.

No malabsorption issues - so no problem with getting all the nutrition that baby needs... It's all good.

Until you get restriction - which usually takes 2-3 fills - you will hardly notice the band, at all.

The only thing you have to remember is to chew your food well, from the start. Don't let the 1% get you down.

Hugs!!!

I completely understand why you are nervous. I thought that I would have a struggle with the insurance company and when I got approved right away, the nerves set in. My surgery is scheduled for April 30. I went today and got my Optifast diet (I start that on April 16). I'm really worried about the two weeks of liquids. That's going to be very difficult for me. This coming Saturday I'm having a "Farewell to Fat" get together at my house...lots of chips and dip, lasagna, pizza...you name it. I know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and in less than a week, my journey will begin when I make that first shake. Just remember that your health will grealy improve once the weight comes off and the nerves will settle.

In my literature from my surgeon, it says that there is no problem getting pregnant, in fact, when you decide to get pregnant it will probably happen easier because you will have less weight. The literature says that they will take some out of your band so you can take in more calories and after the birth, they will fill it. So...it's a win/win situation...good luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
