Hey Lin!

Congrats on your surgery date! There is a stickie thread that I read threw before my surgery. Its in the pre op section. I read threw each page to get a good idea of the range of things people brought and then decided from there.

That said...I didnt bring much..chargers, spare extension cord, hair brush, lip stuff, deodorant. I wore my clothes I arrived in home since they were clean and I had only been in them a few hours at best. Make sure the pants are stretchy pants.

I didn't bring my own night gown, as i just didnt care enough to change out of the hospital gown.

You honestly don't need a whole lot.

Once you get home tho, make sure you have gas x strips handy and a heating pad. The heating pad takes down the belly swelling and gas in no time at all. Have some flavored Water at home waiting for you..propep zero, Vitamin zero etc.

Good luck on your journey!

You need very little. My tablet computer, some loose-fitting yoga pants to wear under your hospital gown when you're walking the halls (walking is AWESOME - DO IT A LOT), a zip-up hoodie to wear over the gown so you don't freeze to death, some face cleansing wipes, a nice minty lip gloss, toothbrush & paste, deodorant, hair brush. Some folks like to bring their own pillow. I'm not exposing my personal pillow to a hospital! :)

Best wishes - this has been a wonderful choice for me!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
