so will i feel normal again?

Recommended Posts

I would love to get some feedback on how long it took everyone to feel "normal" again after post opp. I am 5 days out, but I am back at work, I'm a teacher, and am so tired at the end of the day. I look forward to the normal feeling again:) Still not hungry at all and Iwonder if that is where my lack of energy is coming from. I know it will come with time, but give me something to look forward to! :)

I think I remember right at the 2 week mark, I was sitting there and I thought, wow, I feel pretty good. It was a gradual thing,

Heather, it takes time to recover from surgery, but as for me, I have more energy now than I have had in years. I'm 5-1/2 weeks post-op and I think it's the fact that my body has absolutely no junk food in it, I'm drinking lots of Water every day, I'm exercising, and have lost a good chunk of weight. Everything feels better, and I have energy, finally. I sleep so well now. You'll bounce back, better than ever!

I am a teacher too and that is exactly how I felt.

It gets better…you are almost there…for me….probably around 10-14 days and I was feeling more like my old self…..

Hang in there….teaching is tiring on a good day….you just had surgery…you are bound to be tired now! But, yes, it does get better!

@@JustWatchMe ….hit it on the head! NOW….7 months down the lap band highway….I have energy galore!

Take one day at a time…. ;)

I actually blogged about starting to feel normal on day 13:

http://banderland.weebly.com/1/post/2014/03/day-13energy-coming-back.html

Before that I was definitely not myself. Now, I have tons of energy I never had before like @@JustWatchMe

You will get there before you know it!

Everybodys different in how soon they feel "normal". I felt like id been run over by a truck the first 2 days, very little pain but felt tired and sore,, by the 3 rd day I felt MUCH better, and went back to work on the 8th day feeling great. (On my feet all day) From there on out it just got better and better, and continues to be the best decision I could of ever made for my health. No more sleep apnea or digestive problems, I have lots more energy, I look and feel so much better , yada yada yada..........Give yourself plenty of time, follow your Drs orders, and you'll feel better in no time. Good luck !

So today I was horribly nauseated, May have been the 2nd day of STAAR testing, but I was miserable. Called my doctor and he told me to go to the ER. I was just a tad bit freaked out!!!!! I wanted him to tell me everything is going to be ok. He did call back and told me I am probably having issues because I am not having regular BM's. This is the reason I am so miserable. I kinda feel like what am I going to get rid of since I can't keep anything down? Hoping for a better day 8:)

Heather, was thinking about going back on day 8 but my doc wants me to wait until day 14. Am on day 5. Your whole system has to feel in flux. My doc said stool softeners for sure. Helped me. Teacher, here, too.

I am a teacher as well. I was sleeved on 4/16. I went back to work at the one week mark. I did two 1/2 days and then a full day on Friday. Yesterday , on Saturday I still need a nap in the afternoon. It's draining on our bodies! Hoping to make it through a full week. Today is day 11 for me....and everyday it gets better!! Hang in there!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
