5 days post op and I'm hungry.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I'm at day 5 of being banded and moved from clear liquid to full liquid. Doc may clear me for soft foods on Friday, not sure yet. I am tired of my Protein Shakes, cottage cheese, and creamy Soups. (I don't tolerate yogurt well at all.) I really want to have something like cream of wheat, grits, oatmeal...*something* with substance. Mashed potatoes/yams? Something!

Any one have suggestions on alternatives?

Those suggestions for more sound good ONLY if they were approved by your doctor.

Speak with your doctor/nutritionist about other food options before you do/eat something.

The first 6 weeks, I was told, are all about healing and learning mechanics.

Yup the food (or lack of) does stink but its only a limited time…and even you said you may be moved to mushies soon.

Hang in there and speak to your doctors office. They are the best ones to tell you other food options…especially since everyones doctors and protocols are so different.

Best of luck to you!

This is bad. I'm going into day 10 post op and I have absolutely no restriction. I can eat whatever I want, even bread...I even gulp my Water down if I'm not careful. I will schedule my first fill soon, but I really wanted my incisions and tummy to heal a bit more, first. What do I do in the meantime?

you first please follow your doctors guidelines as its vital to let your insides (heal)........you are just recovering from major surgery and those stitches inside are fresh and eating whatever you want it not the way to do...not worth a risk to hurting yourself due to being *hungry*.

what to do?.....stay busy......read, walk, shop, drink more, make out with your spouse on the couch, sit in sun, sit on front porch, go to library.... SF popsicles were my saving grace.....

i can totally relate with what you are saying. i was friggin' STARVING after about 3 days. i am 3 weeks post-op and will go in on Thursday for my first (yay!) fill! i'm so excited. i have absolutely NO restriction. my doctor did tell me that me being hungry is a good thing because it means that the swelling inside has gone down and i am healing well. woo hoo! can't wait for a fill and to be totally better so that i can start working out!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
