Dr. Yau or Dr. Cobourn/Mumford?

Recommended Posts

Hello to all:

I am going to be banded in the very near future and I have read with interest everyone's opinions regarding the clinics. I did a lot of my research online and weighed the pros and cons between the 3 clinics. I dismissed the TCC (Toronto Cosmetic Centre) right away as their website is poorly designed and is not at all informative. I had my initial consultation with TLBC on Monday, April 30 and one with Dr. Mumford at TWLOS today. I found the initial consultation was better handled at the TWLOS clinic because you do not have an in-between speaking to you. Dr. Mumford was very informative and was able to answer all my questions. Unlike the TLBC where the patient coordinator could not really answer some of the questions about the surgery. Don't get me wrong the coordinator at TLBC was very pleasant but I felt I was listening to a 'sales pitch' more than the ins and outs on the procedure I was considering. I liked the fact TLBC had a choice of bands available because we are not all the same, however, Dr. Mumford pointed out that the other bands do not have an even 'round' fill like the Inamed band and therefore the stomach could be unevenly tightened. I have my surgery tentatively booked with TLBC and I have to confirm next week. The two reasons I'm considering TLBC over TWLOS are the location of the clinic and the fact Dr. Yau has more experience in this field. I do hope that I get to consult with Dr. Yau before the surgery.

Will keep everyone posted.

You definitely get to consult with Dr Yau....all you have to do is ask. You see the pre-op coord. first and then the doc (if you so chose).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
