Epic battle- Liquids vs Solid

Recommended Posts

How does anyone keep up their fluids with all these rules about waiting 30 mins before solid food and 45 mins after a meal. By the time I wait that long iv forgotten to drink anything at all?!? And if I spend my day keeping my fluids up I want be able to eat anything solid coz I will never have the 30min gap between my last drink to enable me to eat??? How does everyone else do it??? And does 1 sip mean I need to wait another 30-45 mins???

It's really not that difficult; having a plan will make it that much easier.

Try setting a timer on your phone to remind you to drink your fluids.

I don't know....I still find it to be a magical balancing act. 2 1/2 months out I still struggle with this.

My surgery was March 12 and I've ended up hospitalized twice for dehydration. .. not enough fluids mixed with vomiting every time I drank Water. I'm struggling with this something bad. I keep a shot glass at my desk marked with one ounce and have now started a tick sheet to drink one ounce every fifteen minutes. I feel nauseous all the time which stinks and can't wait for that feeling to go away. I've already lost 41 of the 120 lbs that I'd like to lose. I'm now back to liquids. .. My surgeon had me start all over. Try to get your fluids! !

I was sleeved march 10th and I felt the same way the first few weeks. Now that I'm feeling better it's becoming a habit I just eat about the same time each day and that gives me plenty of time to drink my Water in between meals. I wait about 30 min after eating is all. I was overthinking it in the beginning and it really does get easier. Just do your best and realize it's all worth it. Find what works for you. Good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
