Frustrated - Water intake?!

Recommended Posts

Ow does anyone keep up their fluids with all these rules about waiting 30 mins before solid food and 45 mins after a meal. By the time I wait that long iv forgotten to drink anything at all?!?

And if I spend my day keeping my fluids up I want be able to eat anything solid coz I will never have the 30min gap between my last drink to enable me to eat???

How does everyone else do it??? And does 1 sip mean I need to wait another 30-45 mins???

4 bottles of Water is what we need to intake. My plan: consider the pill box method and label the four bottles. Set your cell phone to remind you 45 minutes after the hour to drink a bottle. I have the opposite problem. I'm stuck on the liquid diet and let myself get too hungry before I eat. I know have chicken, tuna, and egg salad prepared for those moments.

Hope this helps.

I downloaded a program to my phone called Daily Water. You can program alarms to remind you to drink.

It does get better. Initially I really struggled to get in 64 ounces. Now at 16 weeks it is not usually an issue but I still need the reminders.

Well this is a because you asked response.... not a I'm right so listen to me response. I struggled too with this. I'm 10 weeks out now and pretty much get my fluids in. I try not to over think it all.

I use my urine to decide if I need to stress about fluids... clear or close to it.... I don't worry. If it isn't... well I hunker down and decide Water is more important than the 30 minute rule. I generally have a 32 oz bottle and will basically nurse it (getting easier to take a few big sips at a time) and just not eat anything until I finish it. I have introduced a Protein shake before finishing because it counts as fluids.

I also rely heavily on hot tea in the evenings and if I feel like I haven't had a lot of fluids, I will drink 3 or 4 cups before going to bed.

I think I do pretty well without over stressing it. I do think being exacting to the 30 minute before and after rule can make it hard... so I try to in general, but if I sense I'm a little dehydrated, I don't stress it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the responses:) I will just have to stop steering about it and do the best I can... And the idea of using the colour of my wee as a guide sounds like a good plan... I work full time in a busy office so I can't have a timer going off every 45 mins to prompt me to drink Water (only coz it would be distracting for myself and highly irritating:). I will just keep a bottle on my desk and sip sip when I can:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
