Bluesea71 698 Posted April 22, 2014 Hello everyone. I had surgery 4/16 (5 days ago as of this posting) and curious how others are treating their surgical woulds or have any suggestions. My surgeon uses stitches internally but applied surgical glue to the outside. There was no gauze or bandages covering them post surgery. I didn't take a shower for 3 days to give them more time to heal. I now gently wash them in the shower with Hibiclens surgical skin cleanser. I let them air dry before I get dressed, but don't apply any dressings. What are others doing? I know they need to heal before I can apply the Mederma scar gel I bought. Any other suggestions? I've had surgeries before, so I know they will be red for awhile. I want to decrease the changes of them looking worse than they need to. Thanks in advance! I got to shower the 3rd day. When I get out of the shower I pat them dry. I do not put anything on my skin. The strips will fall off by themselves. I have 5 incisions. One of the set of strips is being to come loose.
DairyFairy42 30 Posted April 22, 2014 Hi, I kept dressings on for about eight days, I'm now applying savlon antiseptic cream all day and as soon as they have closed completely I will start applying my scar gel. I am gently massaging them as a couple a bit lumpy, hope that helps
Sha0717 46 Posted May 1, 2014 I have a history of skin cancer and can tell u the best way to keep a scar from getting thick is the me-derma strips, Walmart cells them..cut to fit place on and forget it all day of course not now, must be totally healed first...i recently had surg in face. This stuff saved me,,,with the acceptation of needing some cover up for a bit of redness it is now as flat as the skin around it.
