Yet another newbie!

Hiya! This is my first post here. My name is Ilana, I'm under what is the norm for lap-banding, BMI 31 5ft3in 170lbs. Been dieting most of my life. The "straw" now is losing 33lbs and gaining it back in 6mos. :help: The second I fell off the wagon it was like I had never been on it at all. Most of my immediate family is obese and has been so most of their lives and I am not willing to give up and just say it's my dna, etc. The one thing that we all have in common is that we never feel full - seriously folks, if we are not paying attention we can eat more at a sitting than nearly anyone else. :phanvan Mind you, that makes me the skinny one (relatively speaking!).

ANYHOO, since I have really bad reflux, the kind that will wake you up at night coughing and baseline BMI meets the requirements for a study that Marc Bessler is doing, it looks like I am on the road to lapbandland.

Thanks for reading:)

Well congratulations and good luck to you, Ilana.

It will be a month for me at the end of this week. I am doing great...but believe me its not that easy.

Right now, I am using my lapband as a dieting tool. Once I lose more weight and begin to instictively make better choices with my eating then it would definitely be a new way of life. I am happy of my band and very determined to make it work for me.

This site is wonderful. You will learn so much - even more that what your doctor may tell you. So...continue to check us out. I'm sure you'll be happy for doing so!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
