I am an organizer in a meetup group and have done public functions at the Bothell library.... free! They let you bring in beverages, Snacks if you want. The rooms book up fast so you have to plan in advance.

Okay, the reason I have been hesitant to organize anything is

#1 summer I am really busy with outdoorsy stuff so just didn't want to committ. Now that the season has changed, more open to the idea of participating

#2 I don't really like the content/structured materials. I didn't actually agree with some of the things in there, to each his own, but I can't lead a discussion on how to eat etc. when I am really just an expert on "me".

#3 I would be much more likely to do something if it was active - a walk, a bike ride, a hike - but I realize that preops may not be comfortable/at that level of fitness and it would make me sad for anyone to feel excluded so that has stopped me from getting too excited.

#4 I am just not a support group kinda person so I would hate to start something and then walk away.

I am a veteran, and happy to share my story - I am very comfortable with public speaking am open with my pix, etc. - but this is why I haven't stepped up to make it happen and probably won't unless something really changes. :(

Hi Jane,

Thanks for sharing your reasons. I think we need to be clear from the beginning this is not a "how to eat." I would just die if I we're locked in a room with people discussing that for an hour. I like the social aspect and some might appreciate it. I think fitness oriented is the way to go. Different levels of fitness can be involved in the same activity. I'm sure any materials are a launch point. I also think we'd have to make it clear, no sales. Multilevel marketing can really hijack a social group too! Support can come in many different forms. This forum/website could be viewed as a support group with people coming in and out as needed...I like that type of flexibility.

I'm all for a support group for any level of wls. Personally the physical part is pretty limited right now. I swim as my feet don't manage much else. I am in the very beginning stages of wls. Start by seeing primary Dr teusday. No surgery till January at least.

I am a mental health counselor, group developer and 60yrs old. Love what I do. Group dynamics for support groups need simple clear guidelines created ideally by group.

Looking forward to helping primal

I live in Kitsap Co. (Bremerton area) and I'm in the pre-op phase with my surg scheduled for 8/13 at Overlake Hosp. in Bellevue, Luckily my ins Grp Health offers monthly support meetings but its only open to GH members. It would be nice to open to all because a good support systems is really important. Good luck everyone and I'll definitely check in from time to time to see if there is a group set up for Kitsap Co.

im in Silverdale...there seems to be a lot of people in here from our area

Hello neighbors! I live in North Bend (near Snoqualmie Pass) and am in the very beginning stages of looking into the GSV. I just had my Matrix appointment with Swedish Hospital in Issaquah, and will be starting my (insurance required) 3 months of medically supervised weight loss. My surgery date will not be until late April or early May, at the earliest. So, I'm anxious to learn from everyone, and maybe make a couple of nearby friends that I can get together with from time to time. Anyone that's not too far from me, feel free to send me a message. Looking forward to getting to know people through this forum! Nice to see so many from WA on here!

At Swedish, they had people who had surgery years ago and they talked about how they lost weight. They had a question/ answer period.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
