Today is week 2 since surgery. I finally got some Non-fat milk powder. After I added it to my coffee. I read the label. I know... Read first. There is 12 grams of sugar. Yikes! What is the max number of sugar grams per day? Per meal? I thought 10, but am not sure now since I see everywhere to add this to pudding and Soup. Anybody know?

Usually the trade of is low-fat = high carb, low carb = higher fat. You pretty much have to pick one. Lots of research that was recently published states that full fat dairy is not as bad for you as previously thought and that it keeps you fuller longer.

I don't think there is a magic number. (Anyone, feel free to correct me if I am wrong) I unfortunately can tolerate sugar, so I do my best to keep it as low as possible.

I'm pre-op but my NUT said a good rule of thumb is no more than 5 fat grams and no more than 10 sugar grams in a serving. Just a general idea of what to shoot for.

I was in the grocery store the other day, it was way past time for me to eat and I hadn't taken my shake with me....I saw a shake in the grocery that had lots of Protein so I picked it up and read the label. It had 49 gr of CARBS.....yikes!!!!! We have to read those labels!!!

I always try to pay attention to the sugar content for my hubby who is diabetic. With the lapband there really isn't a restriction on the sugar content otherwise.

If you have a bypass or sleeve do you have a sugar restriction or amount per serving that you should stick to?

In my diet education class they said 6. However in the same class we received a book (they said we were to live by) and it says to use non-fat milk powder to help get my Protein. So that is why I am now confuse.

I always used Protein powder early on to get my Protein. Never used NF milk powder. I don't really like it, nasty stuff ;)

For sleevers (I don't know about RnY), I think there is a different diet plan for every doctor out there. Some are low carb, some are low fat, some tell their patients not to worry about it and just get their protein in. Some people are able to manage <20 g of carbs a day. Some people shoot for a minimum of 130 g of carbs a day. It's all over the board. The important thing is to trust whoever your nut is and follow their plan. There is research to support almost any position you decide on.

For sleevers, there is no biological restriction on sugar like it is for bypass. Some sleevers will dump (I've had that pleasure on occasion) but it is not a common problem with the sleeve.

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

        Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

      Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
