Cosmetic surgery in Los Angeles area?

Recommended Posts

I'm not anywhere near done losing weight, but I was just thinking about the possibility of having some body work done. I absolutely cannot picture myself as anything other than chubby, but let's say for grins, I actually make it somewhere in the vicinity of chub-free. The procedures I'd consider are a Tummy Tuck and Lipo on my inner thighs. Maybe a boob lift, but it seems like anything involving the boobs is extra painful.

Anyway, I live in Los Angeles. Strangely, that presents something of a dilemma. It means cosmetic surgeons are a dime a dozen around here. It means some of them are veerrrrry expensive and very good, but it also means that there are a ton of quacks and sub-par surgeons who advertise on the backs of restaurant menus and strange places like that. Because of all that, I'm actually considering going somewhere else for cosmetic surgery. I know it seems like twisted logic, since many of the very best surgeons are here, but the idea of sorting through them all to find one that's really good and that I can also afford. It just seems easier to go with a doc recommended here and on obesity help. I'm even thinking Mexico, since it's so close.

I guess my question is - has anyone had their surgery in los angeles/southern california? Did you have a good doc? I guess I'm just hoping the clouds will open and the perfect situation will drop out of the sky and land in my lap.

Geez, who am I kidding? Not like this is anything I need to consider any time soon...

I'm considering a Tummy Tuck and a little Lipo, but of course people are telling me I don't need it. I want a belly, like Telly!

I have a consult with Dr. Quiroz in June. If all goes well with that I plan on having him do my surgery in August.

Housecatgirl, I've marveled and been inspired by your post-op pix. May I ask what you are having plastic surgery on? You look beautiful!

Hi Faithmd, Thanks for your sweet comments. I had breast implants about 11 years ago and I think one of them became incapsulated. Anyway, they don't last forever anyway so I am having them redone. I have saline and I want silicone now that they have discovered the earlier silicone scare was unfounded. I may also have a few stubborn areas lipoed but I want to lose another 10 lbs and see what really may or may not need to be done first.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
