Age versus weight loss success?

Recommended Posts

I remember being able to lose 50 pounds by dieting when I was in my late 20's--it took three months, but the weight came off.

Now that I'm older, and even with the band, I am noticing that it takes a lot of WORK... strict calorie and Protein counting, and a lot of time at the gym. It ain't getting easier... I wish I had this tool 30 years ago.

I wish the band had been this perfected when I was 20-30, too, but it wasn't so in a way we are lucky that we didn't attempt this then.

I have to say I must be an outlier because I see no difference in the rhythm of my weight loss now (I just turned 55) and when I used to do traditional dieting (all my life). In fact, my weight came off faster and more consistently with the band that with traditional dieting. But that's because with non-surgical dieting, once I fell off the diet...I'd binge for the week "until next Monday" or "until my next Weight Watchers weigh in" and of course gain.

With the band, it's always in there, so there's no on or off. What a blessing.

I am thankful to have the band at 23! However, that does NOT mean that you can't lose just as much or as quick as me. You will get there. It can be frustrating as it is for me too! You state that it took you 3 months to lose 50 lbs? That is actually quite rare even if you are young so don't beat yourself up over it! I'm happy to have lost 32 WITH the band in 3 months.

Had my band at 66 and have lost over 90 pounds in less than a year. Have never lost more than 45 pounds before it came back. I have been told for a bandster I am ahead of the game. Have been told those of us on the older side of life are more likely to follow the instructions and not try to get around doing what needs to be done to make the band work for us as we work for the band.

I have to say the band is a lifesaver when it comes to backsliding. I always gained back whatever I was able to lose... sometimes it took a bit of time, but the fat won in the end. I notice that the band is good for controlling hunger and portions. It would be almost impossible to eat what I was able to eat before.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
