If wanting to revision from the Band to Bypass, is there approvals that you have to go thru again? I've been banded since 02/2012 and I've lost some weight but not what I thought I would lose, I just think the band doesn't work for me. Any insight for me.

I'm hoping to have mine in May, still waiting on insurance. Good luck to you.

Thank you! I called my insurance everyday until it was approved:)

Yes, there is approval to go through. Your first stop is to a wl surgeon and tell them if U have any acid reflex, weight gain, throwing up, etc. it was nice at my surgeons office they have the machine that you can watch swallow test. I went back cause I started gaining weight and discovered my esophagus was dilated and would require the band be removed. The scope was next to see what the band and everything looks like. After that it was submitted to insurance. I hope this helps.

To Tebowfan- I'm going to start calling tomorrow, i am really anxious to get this done. I had my band in 2010 and this past year I've had nothing but problems, vomiting every time I eat, food getting stuck, acid reflux, choking at night, I had 6.25cc in my band my dr took 3cc out and now I'm gaining weight. I only lost 25lbs since my surgery. I really hope the revision works.

To tlawren: once you've called the insurance ask them your reference number and any direct number to that dept. it took 6 working days for my approval. Are u on liquids yet?

Also, I am sorry you are dealing with all this & you are defintely doing the right thing getting the band out. The bypass Is the best revision I was told for those issues. I believe the reason is because the part of the intestines that make acids is bypassed.

I haven't started liquids yet. Right now I'm enjoying the foods I know I will no longer be able to have, that's probably why I have gained LOL. I should be starting soon just waiting on the ok from my dr.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
