Dr garza and his staff are amazing! The nursing staff is fantastic, I couldn't have asked for better care from the morning of surgery to discharge. The rooms were nice and I would have loved to have been able to check out the shower, it has a rain drop head in it :) if you have any questions about his staff or him or hospital stay let me know!! I just got to go home yesterday :) new tummy and all!!

I am pre-op, working with UW Hospital (Madison). I live in Columbus, WI. Have my initial appointments with the surgeon, dietician, and psych testing on July 12th (and follow up with psych on July 18th).

My surgeon is Dr. Greenberg.

They said there really aren't any restrictions with my insurance...so I am wondering how long the pre-op process is.

@@iMav, I'm guessing about 3-4 months for the process. I had Dr. Greenberg as well and had my surgery at UW Hospital since The American Center wasn't open yet. You have to take a series of classes that help prepare you in addition to possibly having additional "readiness" visits with RD, etc.

How did you guys find anyone that will cover weight loss surgery in WI? I need and want surgery but can't afford to pay on my own. Any helpful suggestions welcome :)

Madison here. Had my pre-op with Dr Gerren plus first meeting at UW American Center with psychologist & nutritionist. They estimate a March or April surgery—getting an roux-n-y. Feels like it’s coming fast and that it’s far off. Walking 30 minutes a day and chewing every bite 30 times, that’s my mantra. 🥴🤠

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
