I was sleeved on 4/9 and still feel very tired/weak. I've been very sick, vomiting all day. I hope you ladies start to feel better soon.

I agree! I only lost 13 pounds my first month after surgery and was freaked out since I was reading the huge amounts everyone else was dropping. I also had a stall my 3rd & 4th week post op. My nutritionist said it was because I lost 35 Pre-op and my body was fighting to hold on to everything I had. Trust us... Stick to the program and it will start dropping again.My second month I dropped an additional 25!! I will be 3 months post-op this coming Wednesday and I noticed last week that I can eat a 6 oz yogurt now. I was a little freaked since I was making it a point to eat no more than 4oz at a time. They say no more than 8oz at a time but it still startled me. I think it is natural for us to worry a little about our "firsts" since this is a whole new way of life. You are doing great! :)

I could eat 4.5 oz of yogurt one week out!!! I think doctors make the pouch difference sizes. I have my 2 week follow up next week. I am going to ask.

I think it is best not to worry about the scale, just make sure you have enough protien and you drink the Water. Everything else will fall into place with time. Not everyone looses at the same rate. as long as you continue to lose over a three week time peroid you are doing very well. Weight loss does not happen over night, even if you had surgery. You have to keep low carbs, more protine, and water, exersize too! Keep the faith!!

10 weeks out here... a few things to add to ease your minds:

When I asked about stretching my sleeve and being able to eat more...my dr explained there is a lot of swelling after surgery that goes down and makes more room in the weeks that follow as well as scar tissue building changes how our tummy's feel and stretch etc... it's a process that typically happens weeks 4 to 12 as the scar tissue builds with mature healing.

As for stretching... he said, "imagine a rubber band and cutting off 80% of it and reattaching the ends in a secure way. You will always be able to stretch it, but it will NEVER be like it was. Granted our tummys are not the same, but he says there is minimal stretching that results in WLS failure with the sleeve. Failure is mostly due to diet choices (high calorie foods can still be consumed), organic disease/metabolic issues not food related. But rarely is the stomach stretching ever a reason people with VSG are not successful.

That being said.... Once we hit goal (or whatever maintenance place our body decides is where it wants to stop and we have metabolically adapted to a low calorie existence...it is important to stay away or portion and calories to manipulate the scale. Not so much our tummy size as what we eat and how/when we eat it.

It's important to stay to the Protein first, Water water... but he was quite assuring that stretching takes a lot of intentional work (overeating.. consistently) and even at that, there is a limited effect to capacity. The real culprit is eating habits.

Just my 2 cents... I take comfort in that.

This is all very true. At one year out, I could eat one piece of pizza. It's thin crust from the same place every time. I will be 5 years out soon and I can still only eat one piece. I don't do it very often because I want to eat more, and I don't need pizza anyway.

I did gain back 15 lbs by making bad choices and it was very hard to take it back off. . It's a lot harder to lose later on. It's very important to stick to the Protein first and not eat in between meals.

Thanks Oregondaisy for sharing your experiences. I can imagine losing any gain after maintenance would be very hard. I certainly appreciate the warning!

I'm only less than one week post-op and already worried about gaining weight. Psych said if I set myself up to fail, then I will. But I don't feel as if I'm setting myself up to fail. Just realistic fears.

I am 21 days out !!! Went to GNC for Protein Shake and the man was very helpfull!! He said u want to loose weight up your Protein to 90-100 grams a day and don't drink it all at once break it up like three times a day!! Your body can only take in about 35-40 grams at a time the rest passes threw you!! I'm doing it today!!

My surgeon said your body can't absorb more than 25-30 grams per two hours. But I've read lots of different things.

Yes. .very true. .only 1wk post op..no pain or nausea. .but right side of abdomen very bloated and really uncomfortable. .taking gas X , walking. .nothing helps. I feel things are moving around on whole right side of abdomen. .don't know if it's trapped gas or excessive amount of stomach acid. .frustrated big time and miserable. .big time buyers remorse :-(

Try to lay on your stomach it will help push the gas out!!!

I was sleeved 4/10 and my recovery has been great, I was one of those that was able to walk and do things right away Thank God but everyone is different and you have to listen to your body. As for the stomach stretch I thought the same thing when I noticed I could drink a lot more than I did at the beginning and also I could eat more than the 1/4 oz yogurt or cottage cheese. I was freaking out a little also because the first few days I was dropping 2 pounds a day and now it's like a pound every 2 days or 3 days and I'm hardly eating. But I know all this is supposed to happen so as long as its coming off I'm happy. Stay strong and keep eating what you are supposed to be eating it will come off.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
