Recommended Posts

On scheduled for bypass on the 29th of April. I also have a blood clotting disorder and will be on blood thinners for the rest of my life. Anybody else out there in a similar situation?

Am indeed in the same boat and getting sleeved on 5/6. Am on Coumadin for life since I have already 2 episodes of blood clots. I know I'll need to be on lovenox and walk a lot right after. Let's chat.

Yes, I have Factor V leiden deficiency and have been on blood thinners for over 15 years. I have a history of blood clots both times in my lungs. You will be fine! I had to transition off of my coumadin and take the lovenox prior to surgery. Not a big deal unless you can't give yourself shots. They will have you up and walking, blood on standby just in case and will be in more frequent then you will like to check your levels.

Thanks @Bookworm. It's good to hear from someone that can relate :-)

I'm crying to know there are others out there! I take my last dose of coumadin tonight and start lovenox in the am. I have been on coumadin for 12 years due to APS. I got my first DVT @18. Had 4 PE's 1 year ago. Any of your surgeons suggesting an IVC filter?

I can only tell you a little bit because a friend of mine is the one with the disorder...she is scheduled for gastric sleeve in July and her Surgeon is going to put something in her thigh or groin area to prevent any clots from moving up, if she gets a clot.

@mentalistfan. Yeah that is the IVC filter. My pcp thinks it is overkill just curious what other opinions out there were.

Yes, I was recommended for a filter; however, went for a second and third opinion. Two out of three said no, that things could be managed through the coumadin, Vitamins and a healthy lifestyle. I can't go near estrogen and stay away from all those Vitamin k enriched foods. I switched off of the lovenox shortly after getting home. I went back to work w/in a week and was walking the day after I got home.

I did stay an extra day in the hospital because my white blood count was off; however, that was the only complication. You will be fine. At this point, like me, you have been doing this for awhile so you are used to getting prodded with a needle. However, if your lucky, my hemotologist now has a finger stick to check INR so I don't have to get my blood taken per say every month. I just get my finger pricked.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
