At the time of my surgery the surgeon placed a 14cc band, I am currenty at 9.5cc's (5 fills) and I am still hungry. Anyone else experience this problem? I carry all my weight in my stomach area (visceral fat) as my doctor calls it, she also let me know that it will take some time to chase it because I will be losing a lot of during my weight loss.

I had my surgery on December 19, 2013 and have lost 62 pounds so far, I can still eat more 1 cup but no more than 2 cups, I try to stay with-in that area, but can feel restriction without any problems, but I am losing weight, though I work out for 60 to 90 mins - 4 to 5 times a week; In additon, I run 2 to 3 miles a day, my doctor told me that this could be why I am always hungry. I just haven't found my green zone and a little concerned, no issues with the band such as heartburn, cough, as some have explained if their band has slipped.

How much is too much of a fill in your band?

I had my surgery one day before you, and have also lost 62 pounds! Crazy!

I have a 10 cc band. I've only had one fill so far because my doc (and I) is very happy with my loss. I'm also happy to be able to tolerate pretty much all foods. So we figured, why mess with a good thing. BUT...I sometimes wonder what it would be like to be in the green zone. My doc said he isn't as concerned with my portion size since I'm losing. I generally stay within a certain calorie range and eat very healthy. I too, exercise 4 days a week. I think of you're exercising as much as you are, you may need to make sure you're taking in enough calories to support it.

I also still get hungry, but I've learned to deal with it and it's not the overwhelming, I have to eat RIGHT NOW, feeling I used to get when I was heavy.

Too much of a fill in your band would be getting stuck or pb'ing a lot, or only being able to eat slider foods. As long as you can eat real, solid foods, I would continue to get fills if you want them.

Congrats on your amazing weight loss. I've started to slow down a little. I lost so much more the first couple of months. Hoping to get the momentum going again.

Best wishes!

Way to go on your weight loss -- that is fantastic. I am one of the people that took six fills to reach the green zone. My doctor was looking for a tennis ball sized portion of food and not being hungry again for 4-5 hours. I kept wondering if I was there yet but it wasn't until I really started feeling ambivalent about food, putting down something even though I hadn't finished my whole portion, or realizing that six hours had passed and I hadn't been thinking about food that whole time -- for me, that's when I knew I was there. And I'm not tight. Never throw up or slime, etc. -- that would tell me we overshot the green zone and took me into red. I am not interested in being there, that's for sure. I still love to eat but happy to be able to stop after my portion. I could keep going, that's for sure -- I don't think my band prevents that but having it helps me have the willpower to say to myself that I've had enough for now. The "for now" works for me because the message is I can have more later. I'm not depriving myself, just had had enough for now. Best wishes to you!

I too have a 14cc but I was at 8.5 and had a few problems but went a head and got one more fill that put me at 9.5 which was red zone but I tried to tough through it. Stupid me should never had done that got a slip had to be unfilled completely for almost three weeks and just got half refilled and get the other half at end of this month...but I will only be going to 8 this time. Major set back but learned my lesson....but from what I read on this site everyone is different some are good a one fill some are good at 6 fills...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
