Easter Dinner.. I watched

Recommended Posts

I guess I am a little luckier, I am about 6 weeks post-op but I don't eat much, I had a hamburger patty that I took 3 bites of and a deviled egg that I took the yoke stuff out of, so I was able to eat a little.

My family all knows what is going on but I did find myself watching how much food everybody else puts on their plates. My family has lots of toddlers and I noticed the HUGE servings of potato and macaroni salad they feed them. My kids are much more aware (going through this with me) and my kids ate mostly fruits but I was also shocked that in our 5 hours there that people were going back and having a second meal, and I am sure last year I was right there with them.

I am finding it hard not to judge others for eating so much, I know it is none of my business if they gain weight but it is hard not to think about it.

I was bringing some of tHe food, so I could control it a bit ( my surgery is 8 days away). I'm allowed one lean frozen entree each day, so knowing what the menu was I calculated something that approximated the same calories but would allow me to eat from The Easter dinner we were having. Like most of you, I realized how much food we all eat! Seriously, people ate as many calories and appetizers as I had allowed myself for the entire meal.

So I brought vegetables and low-fat hummus, but someone else brought homemade sausage, dripping with fat. Anyway I did well with dinner, but my niece who I am closest to made dessert. Darling little egg shaped layered cakes! She and I both are the heaviest in our family, and she knows all about my surgery coming up. She was so sweet and talking to me aside and letting you know her feelings would not be at all hurt if I passed on her dessert, or if I just wanted a little bite of her instead. I could have kissed her for her thoughtfulness, understanding, and discretion! I had two small bites, and it was plenty--even before surgery! I never would have had that resolve before.

Anyway, Happy Easter everyone!

Kate

Ps and with all my work and running around yesterday, I lost two pounds! Wild!!

I am little over 4 months out... I use to LOVE Ham.. Bacon.. PORK... now since i have been sleeved - anything from a PIG makes me sick almost as soon as i put it in my mouth. So i cooked for 16 people this beautiful ham.. without thinking, i tasted it... It was so gross & awful... thank goodness i make a turkey too... of course i had 2 bites & was stuffed LOL - but i sat back & watched at everyone "pigging" out... it was kind of like an outer body experience haha

I so agree with you. Yes last year was totally different for me. I too don't want to judge but it's like we are looking in on a problem and we can see clearer now. My son is more aware now too. Our children will remember they should make wiser choices. Hopefully as the time goes by they will continue to make the right choices.

I made Easter dinner. There was ham and green Beans (which I can eat both), cheesy potatoes and crecent rolls. Dh's grandma looked at both of us funny. Dh admitted to her that I had surgery and passed off his eating as being on a special diet diet on doctor's orders (he had a revision in December).

My mom made a banana cake. Dh and I shared a tiny piece and didn't even finish it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
